Hello everybody! What do you think about the speedy Apollo 17 40th Anniversary ? It was a little flop when it’s released. Is someone here having one ?

This watch does not like everyone. Since it is hard to read. But everyone has a different taste and I like the clock because it is different. At the beginning of the year I was able to get a new one, therefore also with 5 years of warranty.

I quite like the look.
Very unloved by a lot of Omega collectors.

Thanks! Have you got a photo in the dark ?

Yes, actually very unloved. Perhaps it will change in the future ? Or not...

It was a very bold design, too bold it seems for the market to absorb. Still available from Omega. Does it become collectible in the future, I suspect it will on some level.

My local OB has a new one in stock, they keep dribbling through but they rarely find a buyer.

The whole dial tribute is just too much, destroys any legibility, particularly the chrono registers.

In my opinion this model is a flop. Legibility is very poor and it looks like a commemorative coin strapped to a bracelet. That said who cares what I think - taste is subjective and if this is someone’s cup of tea that’s all that matters. Watches are there to be enjoyed. Out of curiosity what does the back look like? I kind of feel the front should be the back....

It can't be any worse than the front.

The concept of the Speedmasters is legibility, fast and easy, even under sub-optimal conditions.

This limited edition completely flies in the face of all that.

I suspect that, if I wore one, I would spontaneously grimace every time I glanced at its face, literally. Which is the opposite of what I prefer to do when I glance at a watch I’m wearing.

I personally like it a lot and this is why I bought it. But truly it is not a watch for the hard core WIS. Association with a classic Moonwatch is practically invisible outside, no reminiscence of any kind!

I'm sorry, I don't understand WIS?

WIS = Watch Idiot Savant. It's a self deprecating term for an individual deep into the details and nuances of the hobby.

Thank you for that. I don't think I qualify to that level, although I may in a few years. I certainly like watches and have recently purchased some low-end Omegas for my collection (a 1970 Stainless Seamaster and a 1975 Gold-plated Geneve). I am new to this forum, but enjoy seeing that there are other people with even more of a passion for old watches than me.

Not everyone likes them, but if you're a collector, you can not miss them. I'm glad to have her with the others in the collection
