I vote ap...classic look ... In house movement ... Zenith chrono is awesome but would want it in a zenith watch not a Rolex...and the looks of a Daytona not for me.,. Except if panda like a Paul Newman...

I own a AP Royal Oak 15400. It is a fantastic watch in every detail. Perfect size @ 41mm. The textured dial, magnificent case and bracelet finishing. Display back with nicely finished movement. Truly a delight and highly recommended. I also own Zenith chronographs with a Zenith movement. That gives you an idea of what I think of the Daytona. Why own the dummy down Zenith movment in a Rolex? And for 5 times the price?

No contest... I'd pick up another vintage Speedmaster or mil-spec watch... the queue is quite long.

I have owned the AP RO, it is a gorgeous watch, but for me, it is too "delicate" for wear without worry. Mrs. Darlinboy on the other hand, loves hers. The Daytona, though a classic, is nearly illegible.

    But that's just me.;)

Which one do YOU prefer, and why? ::confused2::

OP is comparing apples to oranges, a chronograph to a three hand with date...

But I will agree with @gemini4 on the Zenith, why own the copy when you can have the origional for a fraction of the cost!;)

I just do not get the RO I never have. It smells of early 80's design to me. Although @gemini4 has the best looking one I've ever seen, in fact it almost sways me to covet one. The Daytona has only ever worked for me as a panda with a black bezel.

IMHO they both scream expensive watch but under deliver for what you get. I rather keep my tool watches and get a Patek which to me screams understated perfection in design. For the record due to legibility I don't consider most daytonas as a tool watch.

Seems to be a problem with all thin steel handed chronographs. Including a lot of the LE Speedmasters. I can't stand a watch that can't tell me the time.

I've also never appreciated the RO.

I guess it's DLAPRO. "It looks like a window in a ship. What's that about?"

In other forums AP jokingly stands for Always Problem due to high reported problems on AP in house movement in RO and ROO.....

It's funny, since I posted on this thread I went out and picked up a Zenith El Primero Striking 10th. What an awesome watch. The finishing on the watch and case, in my opinion, are better than the Rolex. (Just look at the detailing in the date window and the hour markers. The lume in the hour markers shows the sharp lines of the hour marker - really nice). The other thing that hit me was that you can get a used Zenith for around $5K-$7K and that Rolex with a Zenith movement will run you $10K. In my mind that is a significant premium for basically the name. But it is what it is. Anyway, I am loving my Zenith. And BTW, this dial is highly legible.

The heavyweight icons enter the ring, AP RO with the fantastic bracelet (the belt?) vs. Daytona the racing Rolex, fast at its feet. Usually the reigning champion walks away with the title in close matches. Yes, I would like an AP!

I love it. I have the 69 but absolutely would love the 1/10 injury St love the complication.

But on looks alone with agree with your choice

Absolutely fantastic watch and I would go to the ends of the earth for one...if only it didn't have that 1/10th of a second script on it.

Meantime, the I would take the 16520 over the Royal Oak if it had a Mk 1 dial. Otherwise, I would have to flip a coin!

The 69 is identical without the 1/10 script
