That is an awesome piece @t_swiss_t !

I have a 36mm 56023st, which is an early quartz version. One of my most comfortable watches to wear and is very thin!

I think it looks great, I have about an 18cm wrist, but like smaller looking watches hence the focus on vintage!

I love the 14790. My favorite is the military dial with the very unique sweep seconds hand. You see many Royal Oaks that look similar, and then there is that one which totally stands out.

My advice for those considering the 14790 - just be careful about the AP logo clasp on some of the later run versions. It is extremely uncomfortable (to most people including me).

I have 7.25 wrists, am 6'4" ... and have come to absolutely HATE big watches. My first two acquisitions were a Rolex Deepsea and a Datograph, to give you any idea. Quickly flipped.

Personally I think the drive for larger watches is because, with people dressing more casually, a watch is one of the last places to "flex" from a fashion standpoint. But I still wear sportcoats and OCBDs and the like.

But, anyway, I love the 14790 (and am SUPER jealous of the one t_swiss_t has)

Looks like there's one being auctioned at Christies. I like the estimate 📖

I have the 14790ST, with the 'short index' hour indices, bought 5y ago thankfully before the prices went nuts. Wears nicely on a 6.3" wrist.

When is this auction? I don’t see it in the Christie’s calendar?

Well, ended up walking into my local vintage dealer on Friday and they'd just gotten this in an hour beforehand. Somehow, the price was very reasonable and today, I get to call myself the proud owner of this beauty. After a good IG and forum search, I'm happy to say I haven't seen a dial this evenly tropical before on a 14790.

I know you just got it, but if you have any regrets and change your mind, dibs!

Have wanted one of these for years, remember when they were like 10K. Still kinda of niche it seems tho, talk to a guy with a 15202 on his wrist about these and its blank stares.

that tropical dial, sure makes a big difference on this Royal Oak, it's very unique.

I had a tropical 4100st (1mm smaller than 14790) and I think 35-36mm is perfect for AP RO (I have 17.5 mm wrists)

Why?
I think it gives the perfect balance between sporty and dressy. It is a sporty watch that you very well can wear to a suit. The large ROs are in my opinion much less elegante and wear much less well with suit.
That looks really sharp! Been debating an AP; too pricey for me at the moment, but maybe in the future.
