Anyone with experience filling in UK border control paperwork

Hi there,

I am expecting an item into the UK and for some reasons it has been subject to some sort of search by Customs. What I gather is that they will send me a C160 form asking me for details, value and perhaps invoices as evidences. The watch is described as for repair and hence, unlike a brand new item or eBay item I would not have any paypal invoices to show.

Has anyone got any experience in providing such evidence? I have yet to receive the C160 form, perhaps there would be a section allowing me to describe it as a personal item for repair? Any experience or help on this matter is greatly appreciated. Do reach out, and let me know if this has been asked before also.

Thank you!

if what you are describing is a watch being returned to you after service overseas then HMG will probably assess duty on the value of the service of the watch and perhaps even any increase in the "value" of the piece.

the assessment is done due to the lost opportunity to collect VAT or some other duty on the work if it had been done in the UK.

you should have all of the relevant emails, records and invoices from the person who conducted the service on the watch as well as evidence from when it was initially despatched to the service centre (and the relevant declarations relating to value etc).

cheers,
