Anyone regret selling your Polar/White 16570?

An official name by rolex?
I’m not sure if this qualifies as “official”, but Rolex definitely endorses its use….

I’ll also say, I love the 16570. I’ve never owned one, but the 5 digit reference Rolexes are wonderful. Weight, design, robust proven movements - all around winners for me.

Congrats on the pickup @pdxleaf - that case is amazing! Very nice dial as well.

Interrelating thoughts. It is definitely an enthusiast’s watch, but not necessarily for the Rolex enthusiast. I have always thought about it but have decided that the explorer 1 is the one fore me and others 36-34mm

Time for an update. I sold my Polar 16570.
Ironic or inconsistent, that's for you all to decide.

After buying my Summer blue Planet Ocean, the Exp2 sat in the box. The PO was sort of like a fat Exp2 with a similar case width and how it fit my wrist.

For the first few weeks afterwards, I thought I should keep the Exp2 for my daughters to inherit. That's when I realized I wasn't planning to wear it. Leaving a watch sitting in a box is not what I enjoy, no matter how pretty.

So I contacted an OF friend who called dibs and he said he wanted it. We also partly traded back a Gallet Snow White that I had previously sold him, which I missed. In some ways, we have a watch sharing program. One of the many nice things about OF.

My thoughts about the 16570 haven't changed. It's an unusual watch within the Rolex lineup and the dial has an old world character. I had my fling and now I'm back.

Maybe I'll revisit this thread in a couple years an be able to share whether I regret selling my Polar Explorer II. Not yet, though.

Happy watch hunting, amigos.

I posted earlier in this thread about regretting selling my 16570, which I did---until I replaced it with a 216570.

If I had to pick one, it would be the newer model. I appreciate the larger size and more solid bracelet feel.

I always had my eye on the 16570 for the fact that it wasn't as chunky - and it was cheaper.
But that all changed and the 16570 quickly became a little more than I wanted to spend. Also picked up a Tudor BB GMT and realized I was ok with a little chunk.
Now it seems as if things have come back down to earth a little bit, to where now picking up a modern one does not seem too out of the question.
So considering that, the modern ones have piqued my interest a little bit.
I've seen plenty of modern E2's (my father in law wears his black dial every day), so enough to know I do like the size and style.
But have never had my hands on the 16570.

Funnily enough, the watches I wear most often all happen to be 42MM--my 40mm sub being the exception.

For context, my wrist is 7.25".

The 16570 is definitely less chunky and flashy than the 6-digit Explorer II - if deciding between the polar dial 16570 and 216570/126570, I think the 16570 wins hands down - the red GMT hand is much more aesthetically pleasing than the orange one on a white dial. Since finding a bargain on one this spring, it has quickly become one of my all time favorite and most worn watches.

I think if you're considering one of the 6-digit Explorer II's, the black dial is the one to get - the orange GMT hand really pops. It's definitely got a lot of presence, but isn't over the top. I still get a pang of seller's remorse whenever I see an old picture of mine.

A decent alternative to the Explorer II line in general, of course, is the Tudor Black Bay Pro. It's chunky, but I thought it was still comfortable to wear for days at a time. I don't remember why I sold mine...

I think the one thing holding me back is usability. I use my watches. I don't baby them.
For some reason, in my mind, I feel as if I'd need to baby the 16570. Its not a cost thing either.
Like, with a proper service and pressure testing, I wouldn't have to worry about wearing it in the water, and treating it like my BB GMT, right?
I mean the 16570 is no lest robust than the modern offering...right?
But like I said, for whatever reason in my mind it is inferior, in a sense. But I can't really grasp why I think that even with it being my own (probably unreasonable) reasoning.

That's how I feel about most modern Rolex, included the 6-digit Explorer II's. They have too many broad polished surfaces that can easily pick up scratches. And when their cases do get all marked up, they don't look like worn in "tools" to me - they just look like beat up jewelry. I haven't had the same feeling about the 5-digit Rolex I've owned. I think their cases and bracelets have, in general, fewer broad surfaces to scratch - and they are also less of an eyesore when they do pick up some wear and tear.

The way I see it is that the bigger watch is going to see a lot more abuse because it will be banging into everything. That said, 5 digit Rolex are just as tough as the later models.

Congrats! Looks Great! I do not have a 16570, but a 216570 and it is one that i refuse to part with. i do have a 16550 on my short list to buy next though.
As for the need to baby it, ive beat the crap out of mine and it just takes it and keeps going.
