Hey guys,

Sorry I know you all get asked this question a lot. I’m a watch collector but never anything vintage. Vintage has just peeked my interest and I’m considering this Omega. I am also wanting to start learning more about working on older watches and repairs. I know there is a lot to learn and it will take a lot of time before I’m at the stage of actually working on them. But in the mean time I found this watch and love the look of it. I know it’s not perfect and I’m ok with that. I like the fact it looks a little worn. The price is very reasonable and I know it will probable need some work but I really like the look.

Just curious it it’s worth it or if it would just be throwing money away?

I know photos are not the best I tried to get better ones from the seller and no reply.

Thanks for you help appreciate it.

Hi there and welcome.

Your question is curious: you say the price is very reasonable but didn’t say what it is, so we can’t comment on that, and then you ask if it’s worth it!

Without letting us know the price the only response anyone can give is “it’s worth what you want to pay for it”, and if you say the price is reasonable, then I guess that means “yes, it’s worth it.”

As for the watch itself, you say you like it, so again, I would suggest if you like it and it’s a reasonable price there can be no possible argument to advise you against buying it.

Everyone here will have their personal view on it, and whether they would like it in their collection. I have a feeling that most would choose not to have it, but then again, depending on how “reasonable” the price is they may buy it anyway.

You also mention wanting to learn to repair watches. This is an area I know nothing about. My nickname at school was “butterfingers” and the most I have ever done us replace a crown, but I’m guessing the advice you get here would be to learn on a cheap watch that you can pick up for around (£€$)10. I’m just saying this because it wasn’t clear to me from your post whether you were thinking this watch would be a good one to learn on. My suggestion would be not to.

To add to @Engee 's spot on comment, you also buy the seller... if the seller is not responding in a very reasonable request "please send me more detailed photos", just walk away. Patience is the key here, don't rush your purchase

Thanks for the welcome.

Sorry you absolutely right I forgot to list the price. It’s currently list at $188 USD.

As for if I would be working on this watch? Not at this point as I don’t know enough to venture out with this watch, but down the road it might be one I take a look at.

I just signed up at https://watchrepairlessons.com/

His courses come highly recommended and I’m excited to learn more about watch repairs in hopes of discovering if the hobbies is for me?

As for this watch I’m ok with personal comments about this watch, just looking for comments about things that jump out when viewing the pictures. Advice from the people that have a lot more experience than me here on this forum.

I totally understand each persons view will be personal.

Thanks for your time.

“Currently $188” doesn’t mean much I’m afraid. It sounds like you are watching an auction and if the price stopped there it may be reasonable but the chances are it will finish higher.

There’s plenty one might say about the watch itself. Personally I rather like the chocolate patina, but don’t like the way the lume has deteriorated. The case is too worn/polished for my liking. Over-polished cases are, I quickly learned, a big no-no in the world of vintage collecting.
I know nothing about this particular model so for all I know it could be a botched together Frankenstein movement-case-dial-furniture but my novice eye says this is not a redial.

Thank you for you input and pointing out a couple things you like and don’t like.

You are correct it is an auction.

The seller did respond with a couple close ups of the face as I requested. Thought I would post them in case anyone’s interested.

Thanks

The condition is very rough all around, but really the only thing that matters is whether you like it. Similarly, you will have to decide how much you like it (i.e. how much you are willing to pay). Our opinions really don't matter. I will just say that the sweep hand and crown appear to be replacements.

There are things a like about that watch if it was a nice low price I’d like it as a beater. Good on you for signing up for classes. If nothing else you will get a good understanding of parts and how they work etc. I worked on machinery for years and I have a deep appreciate for the intricacies of watches. I’d really like to do something like that myself and have looked into some of those online things I just don’t have a lot a free time to devout to such things. I’m sure online is not the best way to learn but if your just doing it to learn more for yourself it’s probably cool. Let us know how it works out and how you like it.

Hey guys I did not buy it I took your advice about it being worn and polished and being patient to find a watch that I like and in good condition.

The watch ended up going for a price that I personally feel was way over priced for the condition it was in. See attached.

Sorry ConEIPueblo I don’t understand your question? What do you mean what is going on?

Just thought I would put it out there as well.

I scrolled through the for sale section and saw some older Vintage Omega’s that have been sold by members on this forum in the past.

Just thought if anyone is selling, or planning to sell an older Seamster feel free to PM me I would appreciate it.

Thanks guys

I was puzzled to see the watch you'd seen on eBay on Chrono24 at a fixed price. Either the seller played two horses or something else is going on.

Good on you for not buying!

That’s interesting you found it on chrono24.

Who knows maybe the seller did not get his price and bought it back himself using another account.

It did seem very strange that the bid went from around $320 to $466 in the last seconds of the auction.
