Anyone Familiar With A Seamaster 60 M 166.062 Model?

Recently I have been developing a fascination with a Seamaster 60 M 166.062. They seem to be pretty scarce and don't surface too often. I have been researching them and they were produced from the late 60's to very early 70's. Does anyone know if Omega made them with different movements? From what I have seen, it should be a cal. 565 24J, but have come across 2 that had a different cal. One had a cal. 561 24J, and the other had a cal. 563 17J. I would like to buy one that is original. Thanks!

The cal. 561 was a chronometer rated movement that was found only in Constellations and a few Seamasters. Production on the cal. 561 was phased out in favor of the quickset date cal. 564 beginning around 1965, so I highly doubt any cal. 561's were used in the 60M production that started in 1969.

However, the cal. 563 is a 17 jewel version of the cal. 565 that was used in some US export watches to save a bit on customs duties. It is possible that a US market version of the Ref. 166.0062 had this movement. I just don't know enough about this particular model to know for sure.

One thing you can do is to try to find another similar watch with the cal. 563 somewhere online.

Hope this helps,

Same here. There's something very appealing about them.

Where have you been looking for info on them ?

Are they really only 60M water resistant? Or is it just the naming convention

Nope, that's the real depth rating. That was a big deal back then. There weren't many watches claiming more than 200m in the 60's and 70's.

True, but the SM300 was already 200M and that was much earlier

Well... I've seen some marketing material saying the SM300 was 300M but most says 200M

Gatorcpa,
Thanks for the great info. I did find out last night according to the cronomaddox website which lists Omega models and their movements, that it only listed cal. 565 for this watch. All the ones I searched for that showed pic's of the movement had cal. 565 except for the one I found for sale that showed a cal. 563 which scared me and made me back off from it. It's good to know though, that it could have the cal. 563 for the US market. I might have to ask the seller what's up with the movement because it's advertised as all original.

.
I just saw some pic's of them and it is my "next got to have watch" for some reason. As far as my research, I have googled them and found pic's and discussions on other forums, as well as, other Omega info sites. I learned a lot in a short period of time.😁 If you google the reference # 166.062, you should be on your way. Cheers!
Tim

Mine came with a 1098 bracelet with 540 end links. Unfortunately, the bracelet was too small for my wrist and did not come with extra links.🙁
