What's the process for applying the mark Andy?
Big hammer and "bang", or is it more sophisticated that that.

Very Neanderthal Jim…..Hot metal, big hammer and Big Bang.
Touch marks are still around form hundreds of years before the first fleet. 📖
Pretty good high hardened steel. IIRC the above stamp is D2 heated then cryogenic bathed to get extra hardness

Todays modern high hardness knife steels you would be battling to do anything but etching or laser printed once cold.
