When do you guys estimate omega will change the 2500 movement with a new in house version? As we know It is used not just in the Seamaster 300m professional but also in the Deville and 35mm Constellation while the 38mm Constelation uses a 8500 in house design variant.

The 2500 has been around since 1999 mind you we are on version d now. The original planet ocean's used the 2500 but in 2007 they started using the 8500. Considering Omega has a huge following in China and the rest of Asia why have the smaller casing 2500 movements not been updated to an in house designed movement?

Your thoughts as ever would be much appreciated.

If I recall correctly Omega said a few years ago that the goal was for everything (but the Speedy Pro) to be in house by 2017.

Assuming that is still correct, we are a couple years out.

Thanks. I think I heard something like this you triggered my memory, no doubt an in house design and two years of price rises will be more expensive than what we pay now.

I think with Rolex upgrading their movements and Omega going in-house, we're all going to be paying much more in the future.

Nothing gets cheaper in the future. The gap between the haves and the have-nots is getting larger, and so is the cost of the toys.

Very true. We could see potentially two price rises if Omega reach their 2017 in house target for seamaster professional, devile and constelation models. The last rise as they move over to in house especially if the models have a face lift could be very big. We will could see £800 to £1000 increases. I spoke to an Omega manager and he said when the planet ocean crossed over from 2500 to 8500 there was a sharp price rise.

This is so true. Speaking of toys that globebmaster looks very nice, no idea on the price.

I am guessing but I think I am right that the 300 will be the last to receive the master co axial. I assume deville's will be next since that was the first watch Omega installed the con axial in?

Interesting, I hope it is a thinner movement as the devile looks better being delicate and thin.

I don't think Omega will issue a new thin movement to replace the 2500 anytime soon. Their tendency is to bigger, thicker movements (8500, 9300); hope am wrong as they should carry both styles moving forward.

So could we see a new SMP 8500 with large case? Omega want to move it all in house by 2017 apart from Speemaster. We cold expect a large price increase which would make perfect sense.

This is an opinion but I do not like the current trend of these high off the wrist chunky watches from Omega. I wish the 8500 was slimed down.

Just as a reference, the 2500D is 4.1 mm thick, and the 8500 is 5.5 mm. So the difference is there, but it's not all of the reason the watches are so much thicker. It's has a lot to do with case design. Omega could make these watches thinner if they wanted to - eliminate the display back would be the first step...

    Cheers, Al

I understand your concerns. I personally own the spectre and titanium 300 and I really like the new size compared to the 42mm PO

Thank you AL. I thought it was all to do with movement size, I was wrong.

Incorrect. The PO 2500 was introduced in 2005, equipped with calibre 2500C. The calibre 8500A was introduced in january 2007 but the PO 8500, from the very start receiving its power from calibre 8500B, was launched in 2011.
