Left the attached SeaMaster quartz gold dress watch (no box, CIA, etc) by my deceased F-I-L, so huge sentimental value regardless of outcome. Initial Google’s implied a fake, as quartz/plated strap, then M-I-L found itemised in insurance list and recalled purchase from defunct jewellers about 30 yrs ago. I am on search for: 1- Authenticity 2- Model type 3- Service requirements 4- insurance value Understand need to remove back to reveal most details, is back plate a simple pop-out type? presume this might weaken/damage any seal? Is back removal problematic to self-do? Could take to trusted local jeweller or clock repairer but neither Omega qualified. Any constructive advice or answers much appreciated. Thank you, Tony
Ps. From own investigations so far, similar facing(roman numerals & texture) to a 1985 Brest model, though that was stainless steel and 18k plated.
Without a picture of the back hard to say but I assume it is a simple snap on one. Any seals will not be good anymore after all these years anyway. Big chance movement is quartz so not much to service other than a battery. Edit: indeed a Brest I think. One sold here: https://veiling.catawiki.nl/kavels/...est-no-reserve-price-396-1011-heren-1980-1989 so value limited
Looks like a gold plated or filled Brest to me. https://www.omegawatches.com/watch-omega-seamaster-brest-st-396-1011 Unless it's solid gold, the value is only a few hundred dollars (regardless of the ridiculous asking prices on line) https://auction.catawiki.com/kavels...brest-no-reserve-price-396-1011-men-1980-1989. I'll let another member, more knowledgeable about quartz servicing, address that.
Thanks for responses, well seems it’s just a press fit so used a jewellers knife to remove case, have taken the following photos and pleased to say it seems genuine! Happy it’s not too valuable in monetary terms, priceless for memories though! Trying to find my way around numbers and databases to get full spec, etc. Appreciate any advice on what model/spec you think it is. Have a lovely day, Regards, Tony
Hi Vienna, Thank you very much, identified it and saved all the associated info, Much appreciated. Keeping this as a slimline dress watch, but now seem a couple of automatics a local (reputable) watch-menders that I may choose from as an ‘everyday’ wearer.
Here's my Seamster Brest on SS, as mentioned not worth a great deal but a comfortable and good looking watch for sure, love those delicate Romans on the dial.
