Any collectors from Georgia who can help me?

Hi everyone,

I live in Turkey where the government is systematically destroying livestock, agriculture, trade and anything creative, in May they changed a law which made it impossible for vintage watches to be lawfully imported in most circumstances (along with many other things)

Immediate damage to me was $1000 - I lost a $700 C-Case to customs and spent $300 trying to find a solution to save it, ultimately failed

I don't want to stop collecting, but unless I move to a different country, it seems I must stop collecting

My current solution is to ask for friends in different countries to receive watches and pay the taxes there, however it's also unmanageable

I'm wondering whether there's a Georgian collector amongst us who can assist me, basically I'd occasionally send a watch to him, pay the customs tax in Georgia, and I'd manually receive a watch once every 2-3 months by travelling there

Üzgünüm my friend. I had to get a package out of customs once in Bahçelievler or somewhere around there, it was a surreal and terrible experience, and this before things got really bad. At least watches are not so prone to inflation as the lira…

How the world has changed.
I bought some watch accessories and parts from sellers in Turkey some while ago (10 years maybe?) and they arrived quickly and were perfectly what the seller described. Also had a nice little letter about the parts and a nice sign off, something like "Saygama"?

Things have changed globally, and they don't seem to be improving.

I hope the secret ΩF Brotherhood will be able to assist.

Almost right. You mean "saygilarimla" = best regards.
Literally translated = respectfully

Bought a lovely and expensive silk prayer rug a few years back on a business trip, one of my other fascinations. “Just package it and I’ll take it as a carry on.” Said I. “Can’t do that, you will never make it out of the airport and you might be arrested.” Said the dealer. After explaining Turkey’s bizarre export laws and the days required to process the paperwork, he shipped it home for me. Yes, this network on OF will find a solution.

They are keeping people isolated from the world with stupid laws that are only for the masses!
I am very surpised how Erdogan still is in power!!
He is leading the country to a disaster and I've heard that he lives in a palace that has 1.000.000 euros expenses daily!
The irony!
And his people are in very bad situation economically!
The politicians and their oligarks live a life out of this world!
You have no idea the rage I have for politicians because they are corrupted and thinking only for themselves!
I would be happy to help you @kaplan if Albania is a country that is easy for you to come!
I think our import tax is 20%!!
You can contact me whenever you want!

Thank you all, it really means so much, I'll send a pm and reply 😀

Indeed things are very weird, even with ambient observations there are a lot of abnormal stuff going on, for example in the past while I was denied taxation within laws, I've observed others given a pass so obviously outside laws. And the worst thing is there seems to be a good v. bad situation going on, if a good person helps you, by help I mean just apply the laws, you can immediately observe them being mobbed by the group that get disruptive directives. Even on the official customs and trade website, there's a vague rule that indicates personal imports are denied if it's for trade, but in practice they apply it reverse as I observed and read, if an import is going to disrupt economy they allow it, but for people entrepreneurs, startups, collectors, hobbyists etc. - things are not easy.

None of these are disputable of course, on the surface they made it appear like it's all to support the internal economy. I thought it was bad before but this recent law change made it hell, I was able to import stuff with DHL by just paying 20% customs, now they reduced the limit for that simple procedure to 150 euros and also added a base cost that's around 300 euros, so you not only pay 20% tax, but 300 euros on top of it if it's above the limit. I decided to go through with it anyway and that's how I lost a watch, turns out you can't import anything used (so no vintage stuff). I've lost around 150 euros I paid to DHL (half of 300) - I lost the watch, I then tried to get the watch transported elsewhere, then lost another 100+ euros in the process, that turned out to be impossible too
