Can somebody tell me in English, what's written on the dial ? And, yes, I'm aware that this will open the floodgates for funny comments..... From " the Wearer is an A**hole " to " God is great..."..... Kind regards. Achim

Nice, it could be Obi Wan Kenobi’s watch

That was quick ! Now to figure out, which republic. The back has a very , very shallow arabic engraving as well .... It is one of these early ESA licensed bigger case Rado watches with a facetted Tungsten case and a matching facetted diamond cut Crystal. When assembled, I will post a picture. Thanks for solving that mystery.

Ghadaffi was behind a few terror attacks . Maybe given to the terrorists ?
Wow, that’s a dark thought. I was thinking given to a delegation that brought the accord together, but I know little of middle-east politics.

This is very far from any area of my expertise, but would a fully vowelled inscription like it he one on the watch suggest that the phrase is from the Quran? I noticed you rendered it in the more usual unvowelled way.

Interesting thought, but it’s definitely not Quranic. جمهورية is a modern Arabic word and as far as I know wouldn’t have been in use at the time of the Quran. It’s also partially voweled here. A fully voweled version would be:
بَطَلُ الجُمْهُورِيًَةِ

Another thought I forgot to mention earlier. بطل can also translate to “champion” and a quick google search reveals بطل الجمهورية is a title given to some champion athletes (similar to “national champion”). So the context could be sports instead of politics.

That explanation I like...... Makes sense. Thank you.

@watchyouwant as a matter of interest is it clear how that inscription is printed on the dial? Thanks.

As promised : movement serviced and all back together again. The light blue Tungsten case and the mineral glas have the same 5 facetts. That sparkles with every twist of the wrist.... Interesting effect. The light blue colour of the Tungsten case is repeated in the light blue mirror polished outer ring of the dial. Hard to capture in the Winter Sun....quite a stunning contrast.

Worthy of a champion. Quite a transformation. As my farsi friends would say, "haley hoob".
