Dear all,

I was offered to buy this Constellation Pie Pan with a rice bean strap and a Caliber 561.
I like it.
Any thoughts or recommendations?

Best,

olivier

What are your thoughts on it, what do you want to know that you couldn’t find out? 😀

Also, without a price it’s hard to recommend anything. For 200€ that’s an instant buy, for 2000€ an instant pass.

Price is 980 Euros (around 1030 USD). I'm a bit concerned about the traces left by the rotor.
Apparently, the watch comes with an original box and papers.

I'm not a specialist... I want to know mainly if the watch is original - and not a fake or Franken
Also, I'm a bit concerned because if find many similar watches around 2500$. So, the price (1030$) seems strangely low to me.

I'm not sure where the 2500$ come from, that sounds high for that reference even for good condition examples sold by dealers. Check eBay sold listings to get a better idea or browse through the forum. There's a 14393 Constellation with pie pan dial in our classifieds here. Asking is 1450€ IIRC, it's in much better condition and a more sought-after case style and still it's been sitting there for weeks.

For this example, the price probably isn't too unrealistic. Damaged dial, tired looking movement, polished case. The bracelet has value but isn't correct for the reference, I believe. It's still a pie pan so people will spend money for it, but you gotta ask yourself if that's what you're looking for. Factor in a few hundred Euros for a service and you'll end up with a working watch that I, personally, still find rather unattractive with that dial/case. If you like them this way this might be an ok offer for you but I wouldn't call it a bargain by any means.

Thanks MtV for the advices! This is exactly the kind of comments I was looking for 😀
I prefer the "dog leg" lugs. So I should certainly pass on this one and wait for one in better condition.
I'm also involved in a car forum; the main advice is always "don't buy a price". It seems to make sense for watches as well...

+1 Someone has tried to wash that dial. Overall its OK but very tired looking. You can do better.

The fuzzy washed out script and the polished lugs would make it a no for me. The dial is not my style but some do like that much patina.
Seriously look at the private watch for sale sub forum here.
