This time not in Scotland but in England.

Estimate at auction house is £1700-£1900

I think that may not happen unless I tamper with their phone/internet systems

Looks lovely but only 1 photo at moment.

Won't spoil the fun by naming auction house but I'm sure it's appeared on a few search updates !!

I'm only new at this game but it did look rather nice, also auction house states it had an overhaul in Sep 2016. Looking at that image it sounds like a good owner, as nothing seems touched on the outside . Maybe time to offload some of my collection or apply for a re-mortgage - not sure better half would understand though

I think we can safely ignore the estimate.

I can't possibly make it too easy to find, I'm sure the big boys have it bookmarked already ;-)

Here's a clue: look on an auction hosting site, a sort of "auction chamber".

Next you'll be saying to look for someone's first name and something a magnet will have ??

You might even want to take the bus route in London from Hinchley Wood School to Epsom Hospital , that may give you the Lot Number ;-)

So the last English Auction watch that sold recently (a couple of weeks ago) went at £5,500 hammer price.
Am going to stick my neck out and say the current one looks better ::book::

You mean like the sheen on a flagstaff?

(I think I can hear the gentle rustling of nervous breakdowns as they try to figure it out...)

With this kind of posts you will never be able to snag a Speedy at a reasonable price...

I think he knows there was never any chance of that with this one as it's in a place where the serious players look....

Nice looking 105.003-64 (note the case design) looks like a sharp example but looking at the chrono reset whoever serviced it was a muppet

Having spent the last year secretly watching online auctions for pre-moon Speedmasters in UK and occasionally hoping I was the only one to spot the gem, I soon realised that everyone, who is anyone, knows where the good watches are appearing. I did think about pretending no-one would know about this one but I thought better to get some informed opinion on the watch rather than bidding and actually buying a dud.

Didn't want to make it too easy to find though ;-)

Only hope for snagging one at a reasonable price would be at an auction house off the beaten track, but even then I'd imagine they are wise to what sells as well. Wish I'd stumped up cash last year when they were around the £3000 mark - such is life .

If it makes you feel any better it was on my watch list. As I am sure many many others that follow the auction houses. The secret alas is well and truly a thing of the past. Well at least as far as UK auctions connected to internet bidding:)

All I can hope is one day everyone will have bought their own pre-moon and have run out of money ;-) Then it's my turn !!

Time for my meds now, I'm starting to have daft thoughts.

The only way I'll ever own a Speedmaster is by some fluke of a private sale or from a small pawn shop. Luckily for me I'm not that bothered as it's only a chronograph after all and anything decent with a 321, 861, 1861, Valjoux 72 or the right 1040 will suit me fine. So I can look on with a certain detachment as the prices continue to rise. One day the bubble will, not burst exactly but deflate, but that won't be for a decade or so yet.

This result was also posted on other thread but I'd thought I'd tidy this one up as well

Well it did fly, £12000 + buyers premium 18%

Enjoyed my tea and cake watching it jump to £11000 once internet was activated

Last year I wandered down to an out of the way auction house in Chichester. It had one watch of interest in a general sale. It was a 105003, but it was in ropey condition and had no pictures of movement, case back or crowns. Two other blokes turned up for the auction but such was the internet interest that none of us bid, it just shot off and ended around £7000 plus commission. The days of finding an unrecognised watch at an out of the way auction seem to be gone.
