Hello everyone. Today I’ve got a local listing for an omega constellation. It looks pretty good to me and does run. The asking price is $450. Does it look alright and worth the money? I’ll probably start negotiating with $350. I have asked for more pictures and will post them if I get them. For now this is all I have:
Get a better picture immediately. It's not a fake but too blurry to tell if dial is genuine (I am leaning towards saying it is...) It's a ref 2852 (my guess). If it is not a redial, it is worth considerably more than $450. You should be running to pick it up once established it is genuine.
Based on that photo, it looks like some of the markers don't line up. I wouldn't do anything without better photos. Other, however, may be willing to.
Nice looking case Definitely something irregular about the minute markers. Better pics needed. +1 for a bargain if it checks out.
$450 is a more than a good price for a constellation caliber 50 *. But you should to see the movement & case back before buy it. The dial looks damaged by water between 11 to 1 o'clock.
Still need better picture, but my money is on that picture just being off centered and not head on... We'll see... +1 on potential water damage. For $450 though I'd accept a bit of dial degradation.
After talking to the seller, he said he made a mistake and he’s actually asking for 850. I’ll probably pass. He’s now offering me a seamaster (pictures below) for 300. This one also runs. Thoughts?
The seamaster is definitely water damaged in between 4 and 6. PASS. The real fish is still the Constellation. If you get better pics and can knock him down a bit I think you've got yourself a good buy.
Get the better photos first. If it is water damaged or redial, no. If it looks to be in much better shape, I'd think so...
My gut tells me that dial is original. At $450, it might be worth the gamble of the blurry picture and no movement info. At $850, no way. If everything is perfect, it might be worth that. Given that seller is asking $300 for a clapped out Seamaster, I’m not hopeful here. gatorcpa
Can't you get him not to take pictures of the watch in his closet with the door closed? Still need a better picture in normal lighting, especially of 9-12 quadrant as @Temprus noted. May not be worth pursuing if he can't get the photos right.
Oh yeah, and after comparing these pics to earlier ones it's pretty clear that the dial looks consistently water damaged around the top of the watch. Does he store his watches in a humidor?
