·Hello all members
Omega first produced the constellation reference with the date feature which is the model “constellation calendar” in 1957.
Only 25,000 has been produced in the steel (ref. 2943) and goldcap case (ref. 2943) and 18k gold case (ref. 2943 / 2954), also with the grand luxe 18k model (ref. 16995 and ref. 2988).
All these four references used the caliber 504 with 24 jewels.
Today I would like to share my new incoming which is reference 2943-1 SC.
It was the gold cap case with the gold hands and hour-markers.
The movement number was 16,881,xxx using caliber 504 (24 jewels).
I believe that it was produced in 1959 too because I found an extract from the archives from another 18k ref.2954 with the movement number 17,075,515 produced on 16 November 1959.
In my opinion, the dial was original and untouched dome dial with TURLER.
The hour-markers were original and matched with the original luminous hands.
The signed crystal was original too with some scratches.
The decagonal crown should be the modern replacement crown because it is not “flat-footed.”
Caliber 504 looks quite clean and I sent to a watchmaker to be serviced.
The case was some polished in the past but still okay for the gold cap case.
More macro photography of the hour-markers:
I am not sure, even in-person examination, that these markers made from ONYX or tritium, or ….?
It appears black at some angles
“TURLER” signed watch which is “double-signed” omega usually bears the name of the retailer on the dial; however, it comes down to the personal preference.
I did not pay any premium but I am lucky to find it.
Interestingly, my research could not find another ref.2943 with the “TURLER” added, but I compared with another two examples (both Constellation and Seamaster) from the same period (1959-1960). Mine was the middle one, It looks identical so I believe in the authenticity.
I notice that the font of ref. 2943 can show the obviously “serif font”, while some doesn’t like an example that previously owned by @cristos71 .
Another example that I found in all steel and the nice steel case with gold hardware from @Dr No .
Please note the same pattern of hour-markers and hands.
Finally, my wrist shot:
Thanks @hoipolloi , @MtV , @seekingseaquest , @Peemacgee , @Dr No , and many other experts that I discussed via p.m.
Thank you for your comments and suggestions what these hour-markers made of?
Best,
Teerapat
