http://www.hqmilton.com/watches/196...05.003-pre-moon-321-with-brown-tropical-dial1 A new high for an Ed White?
Not really in the same class imo as his last brownie already discussed on here. However he seems to pull them from the air somehow. Nice looking tropical Zenith el primero thete too.
Again, it'll sell. I can remember a couple of years ago, when a lovely tropical Ed White sold on eBay for around $7k and we were all discussing what a high price it was.
but why the h... does it have a professional dial and a the wrong chrono hand? Seems that assembling watches has become popular lately.
Ah well, and they write that the movement is some years younger than the case.... so it's basically a 145.012-67 movement, dial and hands in a 105.003-64 case... and all this for $ 14'850.-.
Transplant movement dial and hands plus. Dial isnt a "tropical" just slight fading as the natural none yellowing photos show
Very disappointing for not disclosing this information by seller. Someone is going to buy this watch for top dollar because of this sellers "trusted" status in the community.
To be fair, the seller does clearly state the movement is newer than the rest, but he doesn't mention the dial. I doubt this is done intentionally. Likely an honest mistake as this sellers primary focus is on vintage Rolex.
I'd like it more in a twisted lug case... is that a Dot Over 99 bezel? Strong price for what it is. Maybe they can gently rub off the Pro with an eraser?
I'm all for hands showing patina, but what looks signs of rust on the subdial hands points to moisture ingress at one time. Perhaps a sign it's had a hard life? But who knows if those hands came from the 145.012 or 105.003 (Or plot twist was it the 145.022 based on that chrono?). A nice parts watch though.
JHC...........asking that kind of money with an incorrect dial.........errrrr..............a total non-starter I would say.
No reference stuff with me but could the dial, hands and movement all belong together and come from a 145.022 but fitted into an Ed White case? Edit, probably not, serial looks too early
to be fair, they are not calling it an "ed white" as they have other 105.003s. they are subtle in their disclosures. it's a very strong price for what it is (a mixed bag straight lug as you all have identified), but they negotiate and do drop prices if a piece is not moving.
Wow...might should have swapped that DON bezel on the 69 tropic...brought better money. Someone will buy this and be very happy with their tropical Ed White...even though it is far, far from that watch. A fool and their money...
