Seller Beware
Ethics are scarce in this business/hobby.
I will say, though, this Forum has some of the most honest, respectable, generous contributors I have seen anywhere. It's a huge part of the reason I have Speed Fever (in an ever-changing world of illnesses).
Sorry, a bit off topic...

How sad the Kid needed money, did not know what he had, and takes a very low ball offer when the shop knew the price of gold.

I blame the kid. Any store is there to turn a profit. If the boy didn't even bother to do a little research, then he gets what he deserves. He had scooter on the brain. And let's not even speculate on why he lost his license.

Congratulations on a great story! And your great fortune.
I hope I get to "care" for something like this someday.
Awesome.
The bracelet-
would you believe I have fixed one of these myself.
1039. I had 5 links without springs.
I decided to make some out of cutting up small springs,
hammering the pieces out and recutting until they fit for the springs.
Much trial and error, but I got them to work perfectly.
I have the holes in my fingers to prove it.

Ron, I take great satisfaction in honoring his father and restoring the watch and band to the level that the ole Sarg. would be proud of. It would have very possibily been scraped. With Omegaforums, Sergeant Beck's name lives on and is honored. (So is his watch!😁)

Pitpro, that is amazing! You are quite the engineer! Was it an 18k bracelet? I wonder how rare the 18k model is. Anybody have any idea?😟

Only 2 18K flat link I have seen in Omegaforum member, plus another 2 in Omega museum in Bienne in the past 1.5 years. The brick/ cobra style is more common and popular.

I think I am the other member Privateday7 is referring too. I found mine last year attached to a very nice Constellation Deluxe 2954. It was desirable and scarce enough for me to drop everything and go on a nice 750km road trip to pick it up!

I can imagine a lot were scrapped over the years due to spring failure. I was lucky in that mine functions perfectly and had hardly been worn, the watch had been on leather for many years.

Here's a couple of pictures, I now have it fitted to the SPP 2853.

I got to see that one over in Amsterdam, Chris was the only bloke in a room full of Speedmasters wearing an 18K gold Constellation Deluxe and it really stood out, the condition of that thing was staggering

I first saw the elusive golden flat link 5 or 6 years ago when I first got my copy of AJTT. There is a very poor, grainy picture of one with a Constellation Deluxe.

After seeing that first image and some further Googling it went right to the very top of my "must have" list as the other period correct gold bracelets don't really do it for me.

Interestingly the majority of the advertisements in AJTT featuring this bracelet are actually for Seamasters, yet I have still never seen a real world photograph of this pairing.....

.....hmm, maybe I have just given myself a nice idea 😁

Cristos and Privateday, It is true that the brickwork Grande Luxe bracelet is seen more often, thought of as more popular, and is a heavier bracelet due to more gold, but the flat link 7077 seems to be more rare. This brings a certain desire. I have seen many of the brick bracelets.

I think we have a new Omegaforums word for a watch that was sold to an intermediary for a ridiculous price/reason:
A Scooter Watch. Mr Secretary Dennis, please write that down and add it into the record.

(For those that don't know we have a thread where we keep track of all the forum specific terminology, the most famous of which may be argued as "Going Ashley", thank you very much. 😁 )

Steve, I have another story to share sometime about a 67 Speedie that was given to me several years ago.
Could that be considered a Scooter-Speedie? 😁😜

While it was certainly one of the better terms, "Golden Squirrel of Distraction" has had more influence.
