I read with interest the post on fake 120s,....very informative and helpful, especially to us newbies, thank you @uwsearch.
Thought this one, coming up in a UK auction on Friday, might be of interest. Don't think it could possibly be one of the aforementioned fakes!馃榾
If sellers are artificially ageing, to afford authenticity, then this seller would be guilty of going a little too far....looks like the full treatment!
BTW, currently at 拢220

Willing to bet there is a half way decent dial under there, but this would concern me

this isn鈥檛 going to be a diamond in the rough poly-watch and wear. This is gonna take some work and money.
Plus, you can see the lume has taken on moisture- particular at the crown and 9 side, so I have no doubt this has gotten wet inside. What may not be apparent on the dial now may become very apparent when the crystal is off.
This would be a big gamble- but considering people are willing to shell out $1.5k+ for an admitted fake- lord knows what this will go for.

Well noted and yes, probably a money-soak. A Glasgow based auction house though, so may well go for a low (ish) price.

If you can pick it up for under $1k, the cost of a full overhaul and clean up (provided the dial is pretty good and you can live with the case roughness- which is common and fine as it鈥檚 honest), you may have a decent daily for under $2k. The rusty parts are gonna cost, and we are only seeing the surface.

Good advice, thanks.
Servicing is a good deal more expensive on this side of the pond though....perhaps 拢550 ($850) with parts, for this one. A poser馃槈

I鈥檇 tread with caution here. Personally I love buying diamonds in the rough, a nice original dial hidden under a knackered crystal. However, given the stains on some of the movement there鈥檚 a reasonable chance the dial has damage and not just the crystal.

Went for 拢980 in the end, about $1300.
Tack on all the costs and extras and you must be rolling way past the 2k.
Guess someone has lined it up as viable though....would love to see the finshed article!

Considering that鈥檚 about what the fake ones are going for, looks like the winner didn鈥檛 do badly
