An example of how not to mail a watch

Four days ago I mailed my watch to the East coast of Canada from the West coast of the USA using the USPS priority mail.

I just received this update:

WTF? Am I being pranked?

This reminds me of the first time my little brother encountered a revolving door- it took what felt like 10 minutes to finally get him out and he was traumatized.

If it's an automatic watch, the time will probably still be correct when it arrives.

I have had similar USPS tracking updates in the past where they even tell you when the delivery man farts!

The post office is broken.

I have not ordered anything for the last few weeks, as the stuff goes every which way. Ordered some stuff from Canada a and it took months to arrive ping ponging around the southern part of the state.

The last order came covered in wet paint! Here it is again.

There is some stuff I want listed in NC and FL. I am sort of giving my addiction a break. Mostly as I ran out of extra funds. Ratwatches can get expensive --- fast.

Ah the infamous Bell Gardens black hole! I've had packages bounce around there too, but typically only international ones. All of them eventually made it though! But maybe there are bigger problems happening now with USPS, perhaps because of the election? I just sent a simple USPS priority package (also a watch) from CA to SC on Saturday, and it hasn't been updated yet this week 😞.

If the new owner is on the east coast of Canada he’ll probably be out lobster fishing for the next 3 months anyway

Not a watch, but a similar experience.

A small package. About the size of a bike battery but not very heavy.
Had to go from Hoppers to Cockatoo, about 80 or so kilometres.

The patient recipient and I watched it, and watched it, and watched it.

"Dear Sir,

Soon after arrival at our GIPPSLAND VIC station, your package somehow became seperated from its container and was later found to be lodged under the driver's seat, where it was discovered at the MELBOURNE AIRPORT VIC following your inquiry.

We apologize for the delay.

However, we must say that we are quite impressed with our new automated tracking system. We thought it was malfunctioning but turns out it was working great the whole time. We are quite pleased and look forward to serving you in the future.

G'day."

Wet paint is nothing new, I've done installations, commissioning and trained the maintenance staff at various automated mail sorting and parcel handling facilities and you'd be surprised how often morons post tins of paint that happen to loose their lids in transit resulting in every other poor bastards mail getting painted!

For the life of me I have no idea why some people seem to think that the mail system is the best way to ship paint!

I got a box that was soaked in cheap perfume. I smelled it the second I walked out to my porch. I had to take the box back outside to open it and the contents were also soaked- ended having to send it back as damaged in transit and the smell lingered on my porch for days.

But your postal vote is safe….
I don't think US votes cast are coming into Canada, so no concern there.

Be thankful it wasn't deer urine that a hunter had ordered that broke all over your stuff...

They do go to Russia via Canada Post though, no?

Actually, one of the weirder ways that things came into Canada from the US is the pulling of warplanes over the border in WWII. The Neutrality Act barred the US from exporting “arms, ammunition, and implements of war”, so the planes were flown to the border where we went and pulled them to our side.

I bought a watch from the US on 9th October. It sat at ebays international sorting hub for 14 days before being shipped to Switzerland (I’m in the UK). It’s now sat awaiting further processing there, before hopefully coming to the UK sooner rather than later.

Every watch I’ve had shipped from the US via eBay shipping (as opposed to FedEx etc has taken over a month. FedEx and DHL take 2-3 days max.

Whenever I buy car parts from the UK the tracking shows that they go to Germany then turn 180 deg back to the US, bounce about the US for a bit before coming to OZ. On the face of it, It seems counter intuitive to be taking such a long torturous circuitous route, but it is what it is!
That's where the freight hubs are.
