I would like to sound you out.
One week I like my watch collection then I want to change/ flip some. Is this unusual or is it the nature of the game?
I am always changing my likes and dislikes is that usual/ normal?
Please put me out of my misery.

I would say that you're still searching and haven't quite found it.

I've been doing it for several years. I think I have found my direction so expect a purge in the very near future.

This just means that you have not spent enough money on your collection. The goal is to spend soo much that you cannot financially afford to sell. This is a lot like Reaganomics. You spend until you are so far in debt that you can’t go any deeper into the red. Being in the state prevents you from selling because you will feel so guilty about losing money.

    "Am I unusual?"

Hahahaha! It depends on your perspective. According to the fellow inmates of this asylum, you're following the everyday path. Now, if you're measuring yourself against regular people, you're a fucking loon who needs psychiatric help.

    It is ever evolving.

I plan to sell those I don't wear and buy a gold bracelet for my speedy and a racing dial mark 2. Then I am done.

Of course I have said I am done several times already. So basically you are never done. So ya, in this group you are not unusual.

I have had some success at crossing watches off my list. I recently crossed of the Rado Captain Cook. It's nice, but the 45mm was too big and the 38mm was too small. So it's off the list.

"Ugh, I have nothing to wear!"

    ...

but yes, sometimes I do feel like that. Not that I want to sell anything, but that nothing "speaks" to me that day

Alan Watts said something like “only a sane person in an insane world is crazy.”

Hopefully this gives you some relief.

+ 1 on you need more watches. This is all normal. Flipping a bunch of watches is how you figure out what you really like.

You're quite normal by OF standards. The problem is that it's not the kill, it's all about the hunt. When you feel that your collection is complete, there is no more hunt. The thrill of finding that one special watch far surpasses the feeling of owning that same watch. That's when you decide to sell a few so you'll have the funds to re-enter the hunt phase.

Or so it seems to me.

Human nature. As you research more and more about watches, your interests change as you learn. Go with the flow :)

I’ve been saying I’m going to sell everything but one and buy a grail watch (ALS or VC dress watch) with that money for a year now. Then I go through my collection and I say why?

Back and forth I go. Good to hear I’m not the only one.

Teenagers often feel this way. When you grow out of it, you will eventually yearn for these days. Enjoy it.

Another question what do you think is a “reasonable amount to lose on a sale” . I always lose money. I buy expensive and sell cheap can’t seem to get the hang of dealing.

You now have some data to work with. Work out your percentage loss, & decrease your buying price by that much.

You can only ask one question per thread. You're being crazy now.
