Seriously, I'm stuck in the past. At least when it comes to vintage watch prices. I thought for SURE $2500 would score the 14ct railroad dial Constellation that ended a few hours ago: http://www.ebay.com/itm/291033626805?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2648Purchases made through these links may earn this site a commission from the eBay Partner Network Well, that turned out to be a bad guess, eh? Despite passing the bid to another member that I struck a deal with, that was $801 short! Then I figured I'd get a really nice consolation prize - a Wittnauer diver: http://www.ebay.com/itm/121233033333?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649Purchases made through these links may earn this site a commission from the eBay Partner Network I set up a snipe for $1093 and bumped it to $1193 just in case, and it still lost!
It brings up a topic of interest to me as someone very new to this hobby. How have the value of watches held through the past few years. Was there a fall off in the value of watches post 2008? A lot of collectible items saw a sharp decline and some have never really caught back up while others have. Which brands fared well and which didn't? How do you see the future as far as values. I guess I'm just looking for a historical perspective on the market of vintage watch collecting.
I don't know about geezer watch selection, but you're not a geezer until you wear your pants up under your armpits. Like this very distinguished geezer (Brits should know him)
I've had my eye on that one as well. There's one that keeps popping up as a straight auction starting at $1599 or something absurd. I think it was one that sold on here for about $1200. Sigh...
I'm so sorry. Every time I get serious about something new, like watches, the prices start to skyrocket. It's all about ME.
It is really getting to be a seller's market for those of us who use 'historical' frames of reference for watch prices. May I interest you in used vinyl? I have a garage full of it. It helps if you appreciate "wabi."
Should I? I'll admit that I don't know what that is. I have about 400 vinyl albums (I presume you weren't talking about flooring?) however I don't collect them, they're just leftover from my misspent youth. My mp3 and ogg collection is at least two orders of magnitude larger.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wabi-sabi Elegant and poetic in concept, "wabi" can also be used tongue in cheek to refer to an item that has seen very hard use, and is just this side of "trashed." That is the sense I was using it in to refer to the condition of my record collection, also leftovers from my youth. Was hoping you would take and interest and drive up the price.
Being a bit of a stickler for linguistic accuracy, I would just like to say we are all geezers. A geezer is just a bloke, a man - or to stretch it slightly, perhaps a bit of a "cheeky chappie" too. These are geezers: These are old geezers: And of course, we mustn't forget about the less common but much admired "diamond geezer": Naturally one would expect every single forum member to be nothing less than a good old diamond geezer, right down to the last man. Hijack over...
More evidence: http://www.ebay.com/itm/331084796661Purchases made through these links may earn this site a commission from the eBay Partner Network Asked for some help on pricing, and figured around $2025. Got smoked!
Hmmm. I see a pattern. You're about 20-22% light on all of them Money supply is now at 10.952 trillion In Oct of 2011 money supply was at approx. 8.6 trillion 21% less. So you're living in Oct. 2011
