@cicindela , of Fost really is a scammer; wouldn’t it be a good idea to close his watch ad in the Private Watch Sales section too?

To me, it looks like he is behaving as any ‘normal’ forum member (if normal applies to any watch affectionado). So things seem a little inconsistent.

Edit: * Based on comment further down; my apologies for misinterpreting the status of this list. Hopefully those whose accounts are compromised come out of this unscratched! *

As stated, the that list contains members who's accounts are compromised and some that are scammers , it does not mean that "he" is a scammer.
his account is in process, as with others, of being repaired.

Should we all be changing our passwords?
Not unless you believe you may have been tricked into giving your password to a scammer.
However if you have any doubt, or you are just worried, it never hurts to change passwords.

This might be a stupid/unwelcome suggestion, but one requirement that I like on the r/watchexchange sales thread on Reddit is that any sales post must include a picture of the watch for sale beside a piece of paper with the seller’s username and current date written down.

I wonder if that might be something to consider implementing here?

Even on the french forum Chronomania.net that requirement is needed to post a FS.

Having a photo may help protect against people "selling" watches they don't own (reusing the photos from elsewhere) but it won't help with account hijacking if the crook has a watch they can take photos of or if the person whose account is hijacked has any watches for sale (which will already have photos posted with name). So it may be a useful security measure, but it's probably not going to fix this particular problem.

Ummmm... ya it does help it.

- 88cut's account was hacked and the guy listed a $33,000 nautilus.
- Not sure these hackers own any of the watches they "list" - so unlikely they could take pictures of it with a timestamp or account.
- They are trying to get you to wire out enough money to make it worth their while knowing they may only get 1 or 2 suckers a month.

No preventative measure will be a full fix, but making it harder by forcing these guys to jump through hoops is just a good idea.

Hypothetical question: if somebody hacked my account and started posting like an obnoxious dickhead, would anybody notice?

Are you really selling all your speedmasters

Has it gotten so bad that "Proof of Life" hostage pictures are necessary? If that's the case, I'm cracking out the camera and starting the fire sale sooner than later.

It's required to sell a $500 phone on Swappa. It couldn't hurt for watches that cost thousands of dollars. It's unfortunate but it's the reality we live in.

Well, just in case, while all of my PW were unique, I just changed them to something even more complex on OF and RF, and I will just let my password manager help me remember them.

A couple of scam emails came in saying they saw my "AD" and are interested in buying my "watch". Sharing the emails for your reference:

This is why we advise NOT to list your email on sales ads here folks. Without that buyers would at least have to register here and then we would get a little bit more information to analyze the them with.
