Hypothetical question: if somebody hacked my account and started posting like an obnoxious dickhead, would anybody notice?

Only if it sounds like a tree falling in the forest.

Only if you claimed that you owned a Speedmaster Pro...

This might be a stupid/unwelcome suggestion, but one requirement that I like on the r/watchexchange sales thread on Reddit is that any sales post must include a picture of the watch for sale beside a piece of paper with the seller’s username and current date written down.

I wonder if that might be something to consider implementing here?
+1. I think this is a really easy way to add a level of confidence to buying/selling platform.

I don't know who you are. I don't know why you want my Seiko. If you are looking to steal my watch I can tell you I don't have a gun, but what I do have are a very particular set of skills. Skills I have acquired over a very long time moderating watch forums. Skills that make me a nightmare for people like you.

Has it gotten so bad that "Proof of Life" hostage pictures are necessary? If that's the case, I'm cracking out the camera and starting the fire sale sooner than later.

No, but Reddit is not a dedicated watch forum like ΩF. Closer to Craig's List.

So I get the need for the precautions.

😉 I get your point, Dennis, but I believe there have been actual incedents of impersonation on here recently and my understanding is that some may have even lost money at some point - mods will correct me if I’m wrong on that front.

An overreaction? Maybe, but an ounce of prevention and all that...

I sent him an email about this. If I get no response I’ll call his cell phone.
Contacted him on Instagram. His account has been banned but he's been in contact with the mods. He'll be back soon.

Should we all be changing our passwords?
If you've used the same password on other sites as you do here, you should definitely change it. Several large sites like WUS were compromised several times a while back. The attackers are using existing logins from WUS etc, then logging in on Omega Forums under those identities to scam people.

I know Gepetto messaged me very soon after I bumped my Constellation. It was kind of hilarious while it lasted:

Them: Hi is the watch still available?
Me: Hi, it sure is.
Them: Can we contact via email? I don't log in here very often.
Me: PMing me like this is just fine.
Them: Whereabouts are you located?
Me: If you read my sales post, you will see I'm in Australia.
Them: Do you ship to USA?
Me: /facepalm

tcheeco [email protected] is a fake ID and yesterday directed me to retra.it/media which is a spoof Omegaforums.net page collecting login ID's - responding to a watch I have for sale. I have given a fake ID and password.

Maybe you should change your avatar to a Bin Chicken so there'll be no doubt you're in Aust. 😁
