Interesting this thing about ringing mechanical watches. Some beautiful pieces shown in this thread. Just out of curiosity, are there any modern options, distributed currently, of ringing mechanical watches apart from all vintage one? Cheers

Yes, they are out there. As noted Vulcain still makes them, as does JLC, but I think my all time favourite is the UN Sonata...

I was out doing some watch shopping and was able to try these two on 😎

A ‘68 Memovox GT (ref E861). A nice piece, but a bit big for my comfort

And then wow, this blue dialled stunner from ‘71 (ref 3072-916). It is smaller all around than the GT, and noticeably less tall.

I've heard the alarm of multiple Bellmatics, a modern Jaeger LeCoultre Memovox, several Vulcain Crickets. I'm not sure about best sounding but the Crickets are the loudest of my small data sample. They would wake me up from a deep slumber. I think the Bellmatics and Memovox might be missed if there were loud background noise to compete with. Any other comparisons?

I've serviced quite a few alarm watches, and I own this one:

It is by far the loudest of any that I've personally heard. It also sounds like a bell, rather than a buzz as most cheaper or vintage watches do. I used it for years when travelling as my alarm clock - never failed to wake me up.

Interesting to see so many Bellmatics - I've resisted the urge to get one till now, but if one wiht that dark grey dial comes up I would be tempted.

Here's my Nivada Wanderer, which houses the Vulcain 120 movement in what I believe is an incredible handsome case. The bezel and centre of the dial are often damaged, so I was lucky to pick this up from the original owner's daughter.

I was able to see one of those owned by a friend recently. I can say its even nicer in person. Cant compare but the sound looked loud and firm to me. Really liked it
