Hi !
Have been thinking of buying a deployment clasp (20mmx18mm) for my SMP 300 which currently has a rubber strap with buckle. I see a lot of aftermarket options available on eBay, with a few even sporting an Omega logo. Are these any good?

The cheap ones with the logo on eBay are fakes- lots of them out there. Try your local AD and they should be able to sell you one if the strap you have had one available.

You should know if you haven’t had a deployant clasp before that they do add a bit of bulk under the wrist compared to the buckle. I bought a bunch of well made 3rd party deployants and put them on a bunch of my straps. Eventually I ended up putting them all back on buckles.

Just be aware that going to an Omega-style DP buckle also means changing the strap, a standard tang buckle strap won't work with an Omega DP buckle.

Which SMP300 do you have? Current gen 42mm ceramic bezel SMP's fit differently than the 41mm versions.

If you want to use your current strap, I would get a Hirsch or Hadley-Roma deployant clasp that will work with what you have. It's much cheaper than buying an OEM strap with the deployant. Look for a fold-over clasp and not butterfly.

Something like this in 18mm:

If you really want an Omega deployant, just get a real Omega one. They do come up for sale at a discount on the Sales Forum. The Omega ones are pricy ($250-$300 if memory serves), but superior to any aftermarket or fake. If you go cheap, you will likely have to replace often because of failures (wont close properly or stay closed) and if you do that enough times, you’ll spend just as much or more as if you got the real thing to start.

As others have said, you will need special straps to use it. But lots of aftermarket strap makers make them now (Artem, Rios1931, Hirsch), so you can go a little cheaper there.
