After my omega dropped down into pieces, my heart is broken

In the morning I just casually put on my watch in the wrist, and all of a sudden it falls down directly hit on the floor.
Sorry to hear that, and I know your pain all too well.

I was on vacation with family Christmas of 2016 in Sydney Australia. As I was putting my watch back on after having a shower, it slipped and landed dial down on a hard ceramic floor. This was what it looked like immediately after...

Hopefully the price of charge won't break my heart again. 馃檨
I took my watch to the AD upon return, and it ended up needing a new dial, new hands, new crystal, full movement service and the end result was about $1700 CAD. 馃槻

I was upset, but didn't blame Rolex for 1 millisecond... 馃憥

Sorry for your friend. But actually nowadays the car is designed with several these functions which could potentially prevent the occasion like this:
1. deep press the brake to activate the Autohold, for VW cars you may need to activate in the center console area. This could naturally self brake your car and when you press the gas pedal it will run for good without deactivation of autohold needed.
2. Always remember to use the hand brake/E-parking brake to hold the car when needed
3. For the automatic transmission/dual clutch these gearboxes, switch to P when standstill needed, then there will be a mechanical design which will lock your gear as well as your car.

The good thing is in the automotive industry we deliver the technology to make the driving more joyful and convenient, whilst the mechnical watch industry are more about design, heritage, mechanism a bit, but durability I believe is not the most urgent and important factor...

If we are talking about VW specifically, they probably just make up whatever claims they want to make about specifications. No connection to reality required.

I have read before that soap scum tends to build up and results in a lot of gunk on the bracelet. I certainly have no fear of taking it under water...

I took this recently in the pool at our Santorini Airbnb:

sorry to hear that.

this happened to me with a lemania chronograph 10-15 years ago. i ended up selling it as is and taking a big hit.

but still to this day i try and put on a watch over a sofa, chair or some soft surface as it almost happened again putting it on standing up on wood floors.

i don't know why for some reason it just slips out of my hands

Thanks for your advice. I also had the insurance for that, but not for my watch. Maybe if I have more money to buy a PP as a collection oriented, perhaps I will consider to purchase the insurance...
Here in Australia I insure my house contents with Suncorp. All my watches are listed on the policy and I do not pay any extra for coverage. I just had the renewal notice so [as a result of this thread] I asked the rep about the consequences of dropping my Sub or SM300 on the bathroom floor. Answer it will be repaired at cost, or replaced at insured value if beyond repair at no cost to me. See, not everything in Australia will kill you馃憤馃槑

In the US when you buy the insurance they make it sound so great. When you make a claim that鈥檚 when the horns come out and they bounce you. 17 years in a house, not one problem. Put in one claim as soon as the paid they dropped me

I try to always hold my wrist over a table top or chair seat when putting on a watch that has to be buckled or clasped.
When seated I hold the watch head face down on my thigh while buckling up.
Expansion bands are much easier to put on and less likely to be dropped.

I've read that sapphire glass can produce many microscopic fragments when broken. I suspect a total tear down and service would be a good idea rather than just replacing the crystal.
