If you're selling privately be careful. There are scammers who ask for pictures of your watch and then use them to list their own fraudulent listing. Also be careful of the method of payment if it is not by bank wire transfer.

If selling on eBay expect someone to offer a buy it now price to end the auction early. And note that eBay tends to side on the buyers side in case of a dispute.

It's a small chance but the nightmare scenario would be for one to sell privately and be ripped off.

It doesn't seem like you're desperate to sell because you need the funds, so assuming that's true, you have the luxury of time to thoroughly document/photograph your Speedy, write a descriptive text detailing what you know about the watch, and research the current market value for your model number. Needless to say, I'm on the side of selling it yourself in order to gain maximum profit. [You can do it!] One other thing to think about is whether you want to limit your sale to buyers in the U.K. only, or broaden it to a worldwide audience (or selective countries). If the latter, I'd suggest opening an account with a third-party insurer like Parcel Pro, when/if you ship the package with FedEx, etc.

Thanks. You're right about where my head is with the watch. I bought it in 2014. The antique/ porn broker wanted £3500 and I traded a Rolex Explorer 2 and couple of Tags and he gave me the speedy plus £2k. Then I do a bit of research and think ,wow if I can something like that for it I can sort my kitchen out. Ha! So, I'm in no rush and I can do my research on the net with the aid of this forum etc. Thanks for your advice. Most welcome

Without getting political about it can I say that I have dealt with vintagespeedmaster.com on a multitude of deals and have more trust and faith in his advice, assistance, honesty and integrity than any watch dealer / seller I have ever dealt with.

Take this as you wish but I suggest challenging a sellers authenticity should be done with more consideration because all I see is someone questioning the integrity of someone whose integrity - as far as I can see is beyond reproach.

And I'm not necessarily having a go at said person. Just stating that perhaps we can all say things without thinking sometimes or perhaps were better directed in a more personable (less public) manner where any misconceptions can be easily resolved.

Sorry for offencing you, my post was just a single comment after putting a quick eye on this site I didn't know. I was not aware about the owner, and I was just referring to one mistake in one ad... But anyway it seems that the mistake is solved and everything is fine.
I hope to see more vintage speedmaster on vintagespeedmaster.com now 😀

No offence, I don't know who is behind this site but just looked at one speedmaster description and it seems that some obvious replacement part are disclosed as 'original to the watch'.

No offence taken.

Hello Gents,

The site is mine. The watch in Q is the 78 speedy, It has the wrong chrono hand on it. I have been meaning to change over the text to represent this to which I have completely forgotten about doing it.

As you all know I have been a member on here since 2013 and a moderator for some years now.

I have not posted this as me on here due to my moderation of the sales forum. I have to separate the two as I do not want to be seen as favourable to anyone let alone my self. I have discussed this with the moderation team, members who have actually bought from me off my site and know me personally or have dealt with me before. I continue to offer the same watches here as on my site, although some don't even see my site, they come in and leave pretty much straight away.

I have not deceived anyone of anything and I am always honest in my descriptions as I can be, allowing for some over sight. I try to offer everything for sale or the majority on here also as well as my site. My seller feedback on here is exceptional as well as people that are not members on here that have left feedback through my site. I am currently changing the layout of the feedback page and it will be displayed differently.

I hope you all understand why I do not mix business with pleasure. My main goal is to help like minded people acquire the rarer limited edition stuff and source watches for people who do not know where to look and that they can deal in 100% confidence in terms of a transaction.

I will not post people who have bought through me not through here due to client confidentiality. The ones who have, you know who you are 😀

My main source of income is brokering high end cars to which I have been doing for a long time, watches just go hand in hand.

Rgds
