Advice on this polerouter sub

Hi all!

I’m somewhat in trouble 😅
I came across a polerouter sub 869120 and it caught my eye! Asymmetrical case, bakelite bezel, red inscriptions…
I didn’t even know this reference but now I feel like I need one! 🤩

The one I saw is this one, it’s far from perfect but it has that untouched vibe I like, especially with that bracelet. I’m far from being an expert so please enlighten me with knowledgeable opinions 😁
I love the case, seems really sharp! The dial seems nicely patinated too. Some lume loss on one hand, but…
Any input? 😀

Looks completely original as it left the factory IMO.
'Lume loss pattern' on the hands is typical for those

Curious what the pros say...

Not a pro but love the reference. A couple of guys here have really nice examples. I looked for a long time and haven't seen many on the market. Here is mine. The bezels come in a variety of colors, including red, green and blue. I would say try for a better one but, again, they are not common. GLWTS.

Wow! Yours is amazing! What a bezel!

They are indeed rare, I can’t find too many comparable examples…
What is the price range on these nowadays btw?

The asked price on the one I show is a little below 6k€

Because they don’t seem to trade very often, it is probably hard to identify a real market price range. On the one hand, the watch is not in terrible condition, and the bracelet is a big plus. On the other hand, the bezel, dial and hands are all imperfect, and you just need to decide how much of an impact on the value that has. I would probably pass at that price and add a little bit more and try to find a better one, which may be easier to say than to do.

Thanks for the input, I see your points. 😀
Bracelet is more than a big plus for me though, it would be a must so the hunt is going to be even harder as these seem to be almost impossible to find alone…
What attracts me most on this one is somewhat the steel : bracelet and very sharp case 😅

The timing of these recent posts is crazy, I just landed this blue bezel variant (869122/02…or inside the caseback 869120/02) in recent days and posted it on Instagram earlier this morning for the first time (@MarktheTime there as well ) . Not pristine, it shows some honest wear over many years, but am so excited to have it. And am very appreciative of insight along the way from @Gopher whose owncool examples added fuel to my fire to find one.
By the way @Dsplash , I am aware of a nice black bezel one likely to hit the market soon (might already be spoken for though). Stay tuned…!

Nice! That’s more how the dial and hands should look.

The earlier MK1 examples don’t have quite the same visual “pop” to my eyes, and tend to command meaningfully lower prices as a result of this in my experience. But still cool nonetheless.

Personally I would always opt for a MKI example of a watch..... but that is just me ...

Many references are in the most demand for MK1, for sure. But as always, a fun example of why personal tastes make a market. To each his own! But I think pound for pound, MK2 of the Polerouter subs tend to go meaningfully higher than mk1.

Typcially MK1 , has a shorter run things were changed to make it " Better" aka crown guards... etc ... Good Hunting Bill

I am in line with views of @MarktheTime. I absolutely love this version of the Polerouter Sub and to my eyes it is the most interesting and striking of the three versions. Plus, it is the most rare. It also wears incredibly comfortable at least on my wrist, especially with the original GF bracelet.

Regarding this example, it does look all correct. The GF bracelet is a big plus. While the hands have issues, correct hands do appear on the Bay and a set may be available right now for a reasonable price. Better hands will spruce it up.

I have been following this model closely for years and own two (all-original), green and red (and a Mk !), and just happen to be wearing the green (on original GF bracelet) today. See below.

The two aspects to check out are the Bakelite bezel and the screw-down crown. The Bakelite is prone to cracking. You will want to ensure the bezel is intact and not cracked. I cannot tell as the photos are dark. The numbers appear washed out but this may just be a result of the lighting. The screw-down crown on this model is finicky, so ensure it's functioning properly.

Given the rarity of this model, you may need to make sacrifices to land one unless you're willing to wait. It took me a couple years of searching to find the green one above. Note, however, that I first negotiated on a subpar example that did not work out, and am so glad I did not jump for that one, because I found the mint green example above only a few months later, so patience can be rewarding. The red one landed 18 months later.

I say you cannot go wrong either way: If you like it, then get it. If not, another one will appear eventually and may be nicer. Plus, the hunt is part of the fun, right?

The one on C24 has been there a while. There is also a similar black one on the Bay for less but without bracelet.

I am mainly a chronograph guy but this mere three-hand model captured me and now I own the two plus I am still seeking the other colors to complete the set. May take the rest of my life given how infrequently nice ones appear.

Lume actually looks nicer here 😁
Bezel seems damaged but I kind of like the « cooked » patina 😅

How hard (and at what cost..) is it to find an original bracelet if I eventually found a head only example?
