Been doing some research on Pocket Watches and decided to pick one up on impulse.

Initially had my eyes set on 1940's Omega Pocket watches but they are not easy to find in good condition. Some advice was to look around at some of the established American Watchmakers of the time such as Illinois, Hamilton etc.

Saw this piece in pretty good condition and price and won the auction for it.

What do you think for my first Pocket Watch buy and 70GBP?

p.s is there supposed to be an additional cover between the caseback/backplate and the movement? A dust-cover of sorts?

I like the look of it but the best people to comment may be @Canuck and @Fritz

the inner dust cover would be on a case with a hinged back. This has a screw on back which is very good at keeping the dust out so no inner cover was needed.

Did you get a chain with that lovely thing?

    Fritz,

If you didn't notice, the person I was referring to who recommended the established American watchmakers was you in a private PM. Haha :whistling:

No I did not get a chain (at least it wasn't mentioned in the listing), but the watch is still on its way to me so I wouldn't know. But great news to hear about the screw on back!

let me know if it shows up without a chain..... that would be an easy thing for me to fix.;)

can't have you dangling the thing from an old shoelace now can we?

hey.... these little happy face things are kinda fun..... how come nobody told me about them before!!!::screwloose::::bleh:::unsure::rolleyes::cautious::oops::D:p:cool::confused:::facepalm1::

I will let you know! Haha.

For now I plan to keep it on one of these as a 'table watch/clock' when I don't bring it out (i'll hardly ever have the chance to bring it out to be honest)

It looks splendid, esp. for that bargain price and condition.

I have one Illinois PW (most of my Illinois are wristwatches):

Sorry. I was initially looking at Omega Pocket watches in a separate thread I created. But bought this one in the end, and completely forgot that this was the Omegaforums ::popcorn::

Mods, please delete it if its irrelevant. But either way, was just trying to get some feedback!

The Meggers and Ehrhardt blue book says this is a grade 305, made circa 1920. A medium grade, there were a lot of these made, but totals aren't indicated. Produced from circa 1910 to circa 1931. Nice find. Looks in decent shape.

its likely a 12 size, looks it in the photos, but they did use that model name on a 16 size as well.
