Advice on purchasing a Constellation

Hi All,

I'm looking to purchase my first Constellation and wanted to know your thoughts on the two below. They look to be in good shape to me but I could be completely wrong. Any advice is much appreciated!

Not to start with a critique right away, but how do you feel about the damage to the inside of the 7 oclock lug on the gold watch? It looks a bit unsightly in the photo.

I'd rule out the 14393 for price alone - even if it was in great shape, that's not a 2k$+ watch. The 168.005 is more reasonable, case is slightly soft and an incorrect crown, but overall more attractive state. Still a significant price tag - 168.005 aren't too uncommon and if you're patient, these do come up here, too, pretty regularly for less.

On a side note: The prices you're mentioning are odd numbers, which is often the case when looking at eBay or C24 offers in foreign currencies. It might be stating the obvious but be aware of potential import taxes.

Are you looking at Japanese sellers? Typically these are individuals who purchase from other Japanese sellers, like closer0924 or elady01 and significantly mark up the price. Some of these sellers even do not actually keep stock, instead simply ripping off pictures from local listings without having the product in hand. When an unsuspecting individual such as yourself comes along and purchases the item, they purchase the watch from the true seller and pocket the difference. The sellers I mentioned typically list their watches in line with market expectations, anywhere between the $700-$1,500 range that is typical for these timepieces.

That gold 14393 is overpriced. I'm leaning more toward the SS 168.005 even though it has incorrect crown. Pricewise, for this condition it's not ridiculous but it's not cheap either. If you don't have the patience but got the money then go for it.

What about this listing? I have seen on some other posts that the seller, alex200373, is on a favorite ebay seller list but users have seen occasional questionable practices.
