Advice on Mitsukoshi modding

Hello,

I came across the Mitsukoshi mod and feel that it has the best execution of the panda aesthetic (versus the Apollo 11 panda and the Tokyo 2020 panda).

Buying an original Mitsukoshi is out of reach for me, whereas purchasing an Apollo 11 or Tokyo panda feels like a less satisfactory (and more expensive option) than a Modsukoshi. It also seems Mitsukoshi dials will only get rarer over time.

However, I’m pretty new to watches in general and am unsure if it is generally advisable for someone inexperienced to try sourcing for Mitsukoshi dials with the end objective of getting a watchmaker to assemble a mod. I’m conscious that there are risks (eg procuring a dial that has defects/marks or is outright fake - there was another thread here discussing this).

Assuming this is at all an advisable option, also appreciate any views on this Mitsukoshi dial listing and if it is authentic and fairly priced.

Thanks very much in advance. Have really enjoyed some of the other posts on this forum.

the dial prices make these mods really expensive and they can be hard to resell.
I'd go Apollo 11 with the red text honestly.
I modded many speedmasters in the past but now it's just so pricey!

That price is just too much. You can buy Apollo 11 whole kits far cheaper, and with less doubts of authentity.

I have 2 genuine Mitsukoshi dials in my modded Speedmasters and they do vary slightly from each other. One similar to the picture here with the shorter minute markers, and the other with the minute markers coming right to the dial step - they came out of Omega dial packets several years ago, before I think anyone thought to copy these dials (assuming at some point they have been copied).

I definately wouldnt pay the huge prices being asked for the dials now though

Thats interesting too, I saw the dial on chrono24 but not sure what the going rate is supposed to be for these. Online listings seem to suggest around the $1.5-2k range?
