Advice on a Dynamic De Ville

Hi all. I was offered this Omega Dynamic De Ville. Haven't opened the case back yet, but I think it's a 166.0146 with a caliber 1012. Comes with its original 1162 bracelet.

Condition is pretty good. Dial is spotless, case is unpolished and doesn't have any major scratches. Original crown and crystal, which only needs a polish for some light scratches. I'm not in love with the movement, but I do like the form factor and condition.

Seller is asking €1k with the argument that it's a rare dial. Don't think a chocolate dial on a Dynamic is rare. Problem is that there's practically none on sale for me to get an idea of what these go for. If I have to guess, half of that price would be a good deal.

Any advice? Photos are mine.

Is there anything in particular that attracts you to it? Asking price is high, “rare” doesn’t always mean valuable.

I’d have to have been searching high and low for this exact variant for a long time to consider that asking price. Even then I’m not sure I could convince myself to pay it.

The question kind of suggests you personally don't find it attractive. I do find it a decent looking watch, but I'm also looking to get good deals so I have a chance to get my money back if I decide to sell.

The fact that I can't find any for sale, either suggests it's a very rare watch, or no one bothers with it. Guess it's more of the latter.

Got you. I have the same feeling. Mostly wondering if it really was a rare variant and I'd be letting it go.

If you read Desmond's essay on these, he warns to be careful since so many of this combination are Frankens so if I were you I'd want it opened before laying out big money but that said it has the DV caseback so isn’t just a dial swap. I'd concur with your price estimation ie nearer half the asking would be a more sensible price to pay, maybe €650 at most if you think you may have to get out at any point. Despite the supposed rarity of the DV branding this is the one of the less desirable version of the Dynamic since it has the later soap bar case and plain looking 10XX movement and you have to ask yourself do you really like the dial, not entirely sure I do and the plain hands look a bit nasty IMO. If you love it and it is in good condition, it isn't a silly asking price, particularly after a haggle but if it needs work it looks toppy to me

@padders great resource thanks. It's even mentioned there that "these are often erroneously described as rare". Also the bracelets mentioned are 1153/138 or 1218/151, so not sure now what that 1162 is doing there.
