Hello,

Has anyone recently purchased a new Speedmaster professional, the hesalite version and if so what sort of discount did you receive, if any?

This week I decided I would finally go and try one on at an AD as I’m looking to get my first luxury watch to tie in with a special occasion in early 2023.

The watch didn’t disappoint and I had a lovely conversation with the sales assistant, I decided to ask if there was any room on the price and he said he’ll see what he can do, he came back with a reduction to £4,600 but he can only do this much of a discount during the Boxing Day sales so I have until tomorrow to decide.

I wasn’t planning on buying the watch right now as I’m still saving but I could just about get to the price.

I suppose my main questions are, is this a good deal in the current market and would I likely find another deal like this over the next year?

Just for reference for anyone that’s not in the UK, this work out at a 14.34% discount from MSRP.

Need a bit more info.

Are you talking about the new 2021 coaxial moonwatch? On bracelet or nylon? Or maybe the pre-2021 moonwatch?

What is the current retail price and what % discount does the price offered represent

You beat me to it thanks.

I personally think this is a very good deal at the moment and if history repeats itself then prices are likely to increase during 2022 and you risk this deal not being available later in the year.

You may get a better deal through a grey dealer but you may not get the omega warranty

Sorry I forgot to include the reference, it’s the 310.30.42.50.01.001 steel on steel version, brand new. MSRP is £5,370.

Buy it. The best time to buy a watch is 10 years ago…..the second best time is yesterday….

It’ll sound silly but I’m a bit worried if I buy it now then I won’t associate it with the special occasion which is the main purpose of the purchase.

I will still obviously cherish it as my first luxury watch but I want some convincing that it’s actually a good discount and not just a classic deadline sales tactic.

If I’m likely to get the watch for a similar price in 12 months then I’d rather hold off and get it then. I know I’d need a time machine for that so my 2nd thought is to compare the average discount people have received over the past 6 months

Hi there and welcome to the forum. For what it's worth, maybe this little story might help you come to a decision...

It was October 2019 and my wife wanted to get me a watch for my 50th Birthday, which wasn't until the following year. We were on holiday in Dubai and I had the opportunity to purchase a Speedmaster "First Omega in Space" at a good price at the airport duty free, which represented a 15% discount on recommended retail. I was so glad that I did because the pandemic hit at the end of the year, so no more international travel and airport duty free. Also, the watch was subsequently discontinued at the end of 2020. Although it is still listed on the Omega website, the price today is much higher than back in 2019 and my original purchase price now represents almost 25% off the current recommended retail price.

So, to sum up, I think you're getting quite a good discount from the AD and you should strike while the iron is hot. If it makes you feel better, don't start wearing your watch until your special occasion arrives. I didn't have any such issues and I started wearing my new watch immediately. I know I'll always associate my Speedy FOIS with my 50th birthday even though I bought it well before.

Thanks for your insight it’s greatly appreciated.

If I did buy it now then I definitely wouldn’t be able to hide it away for a year, it’d have a years worth of wrist time by the time I get married lol

Haha. Then you need to get another watch to mark the occasion. How about a nice dress watch to go with the suit/tux? 😁

Unfortunately we’ve still got the rest of the wedding to pay for so if I get two watches then it’d be over before it had even begun lol

You will save £500 getting it now. Stuff goes up every year, especially luxury goods.

We don’t want to hear excuses or why nots, we want to see pictures….😉

Hahaha, I’m not the impulsive type so i wanted to see if it was anything above the standard discount given at the minute but unfortunately I’ve not heard from anyone else who’s recently bought a new Speedmaster.

I have just phoned up another local AD and without any real haggling they offered me it for £4,700 so I’m thinking it’s maybe the average discount at the minute.

Price seems fair. I got an 18 percent discount on my new sapphire sandwich in the states, with virtually no haggling.

Hi and welcome to the forum. I was like you a few years ago looking to buy my first luxury watch. Omega Forums was so helpful You will find the answers to whatever you need here.

I was looking for a Speedmaster for my 25th wedding anniversary. Was able to buy a new one from a member here at a great price. I bought it about 6 weeks before my anniversary, put it on the day it was delivered, and never looked back. If you have a good deal (and is sounds like you do) just buy the watch and put it on. Believe me, this watch will always feel special to you when you wear it. It's been a few years since I acquired mine and I wear it everyday and love putting it on.

Even though I bought it early, I still consider it my 25th Wedding Anniversary watch. Post some pictures when you get it.

I am in the UK and purchased one of the last 1861 models earlier this year. I had been used to between 10 and 15% discounts but didn't have the same success this time and received about 8.5% from my local AD, and purchased the watch.

I later enquired about the new Speedmaster 3861 Hesalite on steel. I was offered similar % discount on retail plus the nylon deployant strap and clasp; which equates to 15% discount overall. I didn't make the purchase, sticking with my 1861 model.

At the same time I read reports of others receiving greater discounts from dealers around the country. But for me there is only one dealer local to me (I can walk to it!) and that makes a difference to me.

I later went back to the same AD and purchased a Tudor BB58 Blue. I received a £100 discount when no-one else was offering any on the Black Bay range.

I noticed the Speedmaster Pro when it was £1500. By the time I decided it was for me it was £2300. When I could make the purchase it was £4260!

My view is that that there will always be some kind of discount / deal, although the ADs are saying that Omega are restricting this. Also, prices will steadily go up. (extra straps are usually readily available if that adds value to you) So, whether the discount you achieve is the best or not, it will be offset by the new RRP and market value.

If you are ready, go for it!

Don't let the discount rule your decision to buy or not, you either want it or not. I get the impression you aren't completely sold on it at this point for various reasons. There is no real reason you couldn't buy it now and put it away unworn until the special occasion arrives next year. Fortitude and self control!

I'll be blunt. The watch will not be any more 'special' because you wore it for the first time at your wedding vs you wore it for a year and it's the watch you chose to wear at your wedding. And if you ever pass it on to the next generation I doubt that would make a difference to them, either. If you want it, you are being offered a price right now that likely will not be offered to you in 2022. So if you take advantage now you will have more funds in 2022 for the wedding. Also please note you'll be so busy, etc. at your wedding you'll likely not even be thinking about what is on your wrist, and even if you do it will not really matter to you at the time.

Thank you all for the input. I’m definitely mulling over it, I don’t buy myself much as I don’t really care for that many things. All my money is usually spent on experiences. It’s a real 50/50 at the moment
