    Dear forum members:

As someone new to this site, I'm wondering if I might seek your advice about a vintage Omega for sale on Chronos 24. In the last two years or so I've put together a modest collection of vintage timepieces, but nothing particularly notable--and no Omegas, at least not yet. But I have started studying the topic a bit and find that I'm in need of much help and guidance. I've become especially interested in Omegas from the 1940s-60s; and recently, I came across this one, from 1944. The seller is asking about $680, negotiable. I've set aside $1,000, but I haven't found any examples at that price which appeal to me quite as much as this one does. I especially like the patina on the dial, and the case size suits my embarrassingly small wrists.

Although I would welcome any feedback that might help me learn more about this item and Omega in general, I am especially interested in what people think about 1., its general authenticity and condition, 2., the fact that the crown is unsigned (I've seen a lot of early examples lacking signed crowns, but I worry nonetheless), and, 3., the inscribed Omega name and serial number on the back, since I've more often seen plain case backs, with no writing or numbers.

More generally, I'd be curious to know what people think about which era or style or particular model might offer a good (and relatively affordable!) place to start when it comes to collecting vintage Omegas.

Many thanks for your time and expertise. --Orwell

There is no issue with the caseback, but there are some issues with the movement... I would stay clear. It looks pretty awful and has replaced parts. You can do better for that amount!

Agree. In my very limited experience you can find something better at a lower price.
I bought my first omega only recently, and If I were you, I would try to buy and Omega Genève from the 70ies or late 60ies. You can find very good stuff under 600€.

That seller has a bad reputation and have been banned from this forum a couple of times. The general recommendation on OF is to turn away from whatever he offers.

On the OP watch, I'm with @ConElPueblo, movements a mess. Keep looking, preferably on sales listings here on Omega Forums.

Thank you, everyone, for these helpful observations and suggestions, and particularly for information about specific sellers...I'll keep looking, starting with the OF sales listings. And thank you Docthomas and Vicke for bringing individual listings to my attention.
