I know most of you love them

Many of you post wonderful photos of them

But, multi-dial watches??? Who needs them???

I wear a watch to tell me the time. I prefer a mechanical watch because I love the engineering aspect, and I love the idea of an automatic, just because.........

But I don't need a day window, I don't need a date window, I don't even need a sweep hand counting down the seconds....

I certainly don't need multi-dials that may or may not tell me anything at all. Time may be precious but I really want a watch to tell me the (approximate) time, that is easy to read and that doesn't have multiple dials showing me goodness knows what!

I love the 40s, 50s and 60s models and the photos posted of them.

    There I've said it!

I'll await the OF post advising me that I can either retire to a quiet room and make use of the loaded pistol on the desk or face being drummed out of the forum.

Sorry guys, but there it is.

    Not sufficiently beautiful.

Note my avatar - I know it does have a 613 date window but, what the hell! ;)

The Diesel designers seem to have taken watch design way beyond the 21st century; perhaps beyond the 22nd too. ;)

I'm mostly with you, Spruce. I can no longer read a day or date without glasses, so I'd rather not have them. Subdials are getting that way.

Thanks for sharing your opinion. I don't think anyone will fault you for your preferences.

I have one of these. I just wish they made an auto version. It's a fantastic vacation watch.

My wife calls it my "ish" watch . It tells time in 10 minute increments.

Do you also live without colour television, computer, cell phone, automatic transmission, dish washer, air conditioning, power steering, etc. etc.? And do you really never have reason to regret that your watch doesn’t tell you the date? Some folks actually need the extras that some watches offer.

    Spruce,
And do you feel others must follow you?
I respect your feelings and agree with most! But, have you asked yourself why there are so many flavors of ice cream?
It's because we have different likes, brother man.

You horde yours and I'll horde mine!

I think it’s some sort of Invicta ;)

And how would you use it at night? It doesn’t have any superluminova...

I definitely get your point. Two watches I wore a lot in the nineties, in part because they were simple:

I have never been comfortable with ‘date windows’. Now, while I have since grown dependent on them (hence my Moonphase Speedmaster fetish), there was a time I eschewed them.

(Echew — abstain from, refrain from, give up, forgo, forswear, shun, renounce, swear off, abjure, steer clear of, have nothing to do with, give a wide berth to, fight shy of, relinquish, reject, dispense with, disavow, abandon, deny, gainsay, disclaim, repudiate, renege on, spurn, abnegate, abdicate, wash one's hands of, drop;)

(Hey! I wanted to define my terms!)

Another favorite from back in the day:

I know many of you get the esthetics of his point, right?

I still think the fancy Constellations that have date windows look UGLY.

Nobody tell the OP that I own more than a dozen chronographs.

No date, date, chronograph. Like them all, mainly in that order.
But sometimes, when I 've had to much to drink, the dial of the chronograph can be a bit hard to read. Failing eyesight doesn't help either.
