Hi folks. Would appreciate some insight. I am very seriously considering buying this watch today. Cal 342 bumper in 9ct gold Dennison case. Please could you advise if it is a good example and how much you think is a reasonable price. Will update later today if i pull the trigger and tell you how much I paid. Thanks again :)

Among the things that stand out to me is the fact that the spring loaded case clamp that is supposed to sit in the “U” shaped depression on the top bridge of the auto winding is not there. It has been replaced by an incorrect one that likely is not fulfilling the role of the proper tension spring. As a consequence, the rotor appears to have been rubbing on the case back. So if you buy it, be prepared to be spending some money sorting out these, and possibly other problems. It looks to me as though it has potential. But £800 plus whatever you have to spend on servicing might make the deal less attractive. I have to convert to $ Cdn. Which comes out to about $1342.00 which seems rather high to me. Add £300 to £400 for service, and think about it.

For what it is worth, £600 seems pretty high to me.

EDIT: didn't notice that it was a 9ct gold case. Not sure if that adds any real value, however.

Thanks Canuck for your words of wisdom. You just stopped me from buying a dud. I will try to renegotiate with the information you just gave me and will see how much he can take off.

That case likely weighs about 10 or 12 grams. 9 carat gold is only .375 in gold content. Added value? The case appears to be in decent shape. But compared to prices being asked for similar Omegas in steel cases, it seems to me that the seller is asking a steep premium. But when it comes right down to it, I know I have paid extra for items I really wanted. It’s a judgement call.

I just re-read your price. It is £600, not the £800 I mistook it for, initially. That is awful close to $1,000 (Cdn.) which still seems high to me. Add to that a thorough service, and that becomes an expensive watch! You could probably find a decent steel one for half that.
