I just wanted to add to the post about a member considering a vintage Sub..

Not so long ago, it was quite easy and fun to get a nice 5513, 1675 or 1680 at a reasonable price. There were many to choose from and it was fun trading and buying without going bankrupt. But today, watches as shown in that post, seem to have become the rule rather than the exception.

if you're in the market for a vintage sports Rolex, especially the more common models, do not compromise. They are not rare and still quite plentiful. (albeit very expensive), Get the best example you can. There are so many crappy watches out there at insane prices, it's easy to fall prey to the "8K overpolishedcrappydialcorrodedhands 5513" for example. With the high prices vintage Rolex sports models command, unscrupulous sellers have put tons of horrible put together (badly at that) watches. Just check the sales forums and you'll see more Rolex parts ads (both WTB and FS) than watches. That says something about the market.

BTW, when I say "common" I'm talking about the post gilt dial 1675 (non PCG), 5512s, 5513s, 1680s (white).

Cheers,
