So -as every Friday- I check if there are new offers from a well-known watch dealer in Germany

Today I found a -74 Speedmaster with step dial.

Interested in knowing if it is an early production which could confirm the step dial I check the serial and it turns out to be 28084627 which is wrong for that reference (too early) and -after taking a look at Ilovemyspeedmaster.com- seems to be no Speedmaster movement at all

So watch out and check what is offered!

Happy hunting

Further fuel for my theory that Omega sent out casebacks and earlier watches got -74 because they didn’t sell.

The movement also seems to be atrociously filthy. I remembered reading a thread from a while back about abnormally low serial numbers in -74's. This is the one I remembered, which has a picture from MWO addressing this issue, and how there are many -74 with steel brakes:

https://omegaforums.net/threads/ebay-145-022-74-with-low-serial-number.101522/

In that case the movement was WAY too low, but in this case there may be a bit more room for fudge factor. But regardless the consensus then was basically that if the dealer wants to sell a -74 that seems to have too low of a serial, they should be offering it with an extract.

That caseback might be not original to the watch. 😀

Even if just the caseback was wrong - ilovemyspeedmaster says "No moonwatch" (for 28084627)

Because (from here) ...

Edit : and I quote "The recently serviced watch (300; +0s/d) is in very good running condition, keeping very accurate time." ... yup, that movement looks recently serviced allright...as recently as 1970...

I am quite sure the filthy movement ( serviced the seller claims I assume) , the wrong serial all match up, at least to the to the seller who has been discussed here many times before. Wouldn't touch it.

Isn't it a shame though, as the step dial seems to be in very good condition!

Just out of curiosity, is a 69 Seamaster Chrono (if that's what it is) movement of worse quality than a 69 Moonwatch 861?
