    Happy days,

Got this beautiful 165024 -64 HF, a serial 23.000.xxx (late 1965) with one of the most beautiful and rare type B bezel and dial i’ve ever seen.

This one almost slipped my hands due to a work trip and not being able to bid on it in an auction. I grieved and thought this one was lost forever, but luck and destiny must have played an role this time.

I visited my watchmaker and told him that I was heart broken of a watch I missed. Some time went talking about other watches and he pulled out a watch he recently had acquired.

And what do my eyes see!? The same watch!!
    Sometimes the stars do align...

So today I picked it up, fully serviced and ready for another 55 years, now on my wrist
    with a 1506-16 bracelet stamped 4/66.

How high would we have gone against each other if I would have been bidding on this one also? :)

That is a real beauty, well done. Out of interest, (if you don't mind, and feel free to ignore if you do) you must have a good idea what it cost your watchmaker in total from the auction. Did he service the watch or just check it over? What % was he happy with as a profit and did you pay less than you'd have been willing to pay from the auction?

Really fantastic example. Have seen so many poor ones over the last year or so, that I almost convinced myself this was an itch I didn’t need to scratch.

Then, to see one like yours...

Congrats & fun story of acquisition.

In this specific occasion I just shut my eyes and paid him what he wanted for it. I calculated that if I would have been also bidding on this (opposite him), it would have eventually ended up the same price as I paid him, after all cost would have been calculated including service. Now my watchmaker just got a better profit and both where happy with the deal. :)

You are a wise man. With all truly worthwhile purchases, you will soon forget the monetary amount and just fall more deeply in love with your watch. Well done!

Thanks, I'm not surprised you were happy to 'pay what it cost' as it must have seemed like the most incredible serendipity and not easy to find one as good as this.

Always good to keep some cash out of the auction's hands too.
