Inside the case back it is marked ACIER INOXYDABLE. Does that not tell you whether the case is plated, or not? Translation: Stainless Steel.

What did I miss? 馃槈 馃檮

The OP was asking if an Omega case had been gold plated. He showed the interior of the case which clearly was stamped ACIER INOXYDABLE, (stainless steel).

Omega gold plated cases generally had SS casebacks, so did we get to see the whole case, or just the inside of the caseback?

I can鈥檛 give you the model number now that the picture is gone, but it was a front loader DeVille that would have had a stainless steel case with a karat gold, friction fit bezel. This was never a gold plated case, believe me!

This was the case from the original post. Long story short I purchased the watch from eBay and when I popped the case open it was actually stainless steel that was plated by someone after the fact.

Sneaky! I've not seen that done before. Was presumably done to deceive by an earlier seller. Well done for putting the pics back, it gets frustrating when people delete them.

Wild! Never seen that before. This may have not necessarily been done to decieve. In my experience, I find that many of the local/american gold filled de ville cases have issues with the lugs breaking off. The international market 166.020 case is much sturider and not too difficult to find. There seem to be more nice gold/gold filled dials than there are cases, so plating and adapting a steel 166.020 is a unique way to get one of these back on the wrist.
