A racing legend with a Speedmaster...

I am currently watching the Williams F1 documentary on Netflix. Frank Williams apparently wore an Omega Speedmaster in his young days! Hard to see but I think I see crown guards, short pushers and therefore the bracelet must be 1039 and the reference 105.012-6x, but I might be mistaken on those pushers. Either way - fun too see a true racing legend used the Speedmaster for its original purpose 😀

It’s amazing how the F1 world (back in the Golden Age, 50s and 60s) had such a passion for nice watches. I never knew of Enicar until a post here re: Jim Clark and Stirling Moss being Enicar fans/spokesmen. Now, of course, I want an Enicar Chrono. 😗

Unfortunately not but the documentary showed the picture when talking about Williams first workshop which he opened in 1966 (according to wikipedia). With that being said, this photo might been taken years after opening the shop. The picture I posted was printscreened directly from the documentary running on my Mac, but I also managed to find it on google as well, but cannot find the date 🙁

Looks like the Brabham BT26 that he converted to use a Cosworth DFV engine instead of a Repco and was then driven by Piers Courage.

Good documentary, that - watched it a couple of weeks back. He’s a truly dedicated motor racing legend. I didn’t notice the watch, good pick up 👎

I only bought some stuff from a Repco store the other day. Many young ones wouldn't even know about the Repco stores connection to F1 and Sir Jack Brabham

Not sure if he actually wears a watch regularly - I do pay attention to that kind of stuff but I can only remember him with black, finger-less gloves (for the wheelchair) and a long, blue sweater/jersey that never leaves the wrist exposed. When moving along, my sweaters always slide up a bit over the watch - haven’t seen that happen to him. But then again, this is really me playing Sherlock here. 😉
