Can't see the last three digits clearly but you can sort of make them out, that plus the various markings should make it easy to identify if and when it turns up in a 2998
I saw this. Absurd, everything about it. Firstly, it's completely shameless, like buying a chassis VIN plate. It's expensive, compared to several complete movements that have been available over the last 12 months, including 17m serials. So it is bought, (if it is sold,) it is bought by someone who intends to make a movement appear older. Could there be any other purpose? As others said, adding the movement plate alone, will be obvious to some, and discernible by most after salient points illuminated. So a bit pointless, as buyers of 2998's are for the most part becoming educated. I am open to be enlightened, but until then I remain .....annoyed? Irked? Irritated? I don't know, it's none of my business, at least I hope not! I shall look even closer at the colours of the plates in future.
How about a guy with a genuine 17m movement had a damaged part he wanted replaced? Or a part that was heavily polished and lost its engraving? Not everyone has the intention of deceit, it could be a legitimate purchase.
I admire your optimism but I can assure you nobody is spending $2000 to replace a slightly damaged bridge.
