Well, the SM120 bug has truly landed.

I bought one a few years ago, loved it but found i didn’t really wear it so sold it. Then after a year or two I regretted letting it go so I’ve spent the last year+ with an eye out for another. I recently found one I like which is currently away for a service (top two pictures).
However as is often the case another one recently came up and after a little back and forth I ended up buying that one too!

Although the same reference, they are certainly different beasts.
The first one (pictures 1 and 2) has aged beautifully, with a bezel thats faded to a lovely grey/ghost effect, the dial has lume with a wonderful yellow hue and uses the more common white date disk and the case while good has lost most of the original finish over the years.

The second one (pics 3 and 4) has a nice black bezel and the dial has similar yellow lume but this time with a black date disk. The case is also razor sharp and retains the original finish and crown.
Both are excellent but in their own unique way and to me, demonstrate the attraction of this hobby in that no two vintage watches are truly the same.

Had an email exchange with the seller who confirmed he received this new as a gift in ‘73 and wore it for 7-8 years before retiring it to a drawer.
Says it was never serviced although there are some scratches on the caseback from ham-fisted opening attempts. It appears original down to the crown and crystal and the case certainly seems unpolished so perhaps it’s true. I’m away from my tools at the minute so will have to wait to check the movement.

Has anyone else got examples of this radial brushing on SM120 cases? I’ve only seen it a couple of times before but believe it to be the correct, original finish, just like the Seamaster Cosmics with a similar case type.
