I have been considering this myself as I have access to a fiber laser.

I think where I went wrong was I was attempting thick brass and only 100 passes. This vid says 600 passes are needed. (that could take a long time.)

I do think this sort of tech is the future of watchmaking. Especially if it could make springs. The laser is going to change the temper of the metal. The brass square I etched a few weeks back got really hot, and it barely cut into the surface.

What fiber do you have access to?
Here is realtime of me cutting 0.1mm brass hands with a 50W fiber.
Brass needs a bit more power to cut, so steel usually is a breeze compared! 😀
