I’ve had this watch for over 10 years now but never took the time to research the speedmaster’s long history.

I inherited the watch from my grandfather. He probably bought it new in Switzerland, although I don’t know when. I don’t have the original papers.

The watch was sent to Omega for a service in 2007. From them, I learned that it was a CK2915-2 (although they call it a ST2915-2), with a caliber 321 number 15996XXX.

Recently, when I researched what a 2915-2 should look like, I realized that the watch had been much modified (probably by Omega themselves), and that the bezel, the dial and the hands all do not correspond to a 2915-2.

The case is original. The case back looks original too with its typical « double step ». I’ve read that there could be early case backs without engraving.

My question to you is this one : should I try to have it restored, knowing that it is virtually impossible to find original parts for 2915-2 ? If so, who should I contact (preferably in Europe)? I called Omega in Switzerland and they told me they don't have the spare parts to restore.

Or should I just leave the watch like this, and enjoy wearing it as it is...

I would suggest you enjoy this watch as is and let it remind you of your Grandfather every time you look at it!

 

That service in 2007 destroyed roughly $ 24.000 of the value. In keeping the replaced parts, somebody in Biel is getting rich....

 

I believe the modifications were made earlier, maybe in the 1980´s… probably people did not care about vintage watches then

 

Certainly possible the dial, hands, and bezel were totally trashed at the time too.

 

I agree that the service parts are more consistent with the 80s than with the 2000s. They may have returned the original parts at the time. Perhaps some day you will find them.
