Have looked for one of these for some time, so when the below example was offered I bought it, so I could have a closer look at one, and “feel” it It went for a way higher amount than expected, but with two weeks to regret, not much harm done...... It came in a few days ago and I REALLY like that thing. Everything looks like it has spend lot of its time in a drawer, though there’s a light spot at the dial at 9 O’clock, that almost have the same shape as the hour hand. If the hand have been at the same position for years, is it possible that the lume have “burnt” a mark on the dial, and if yes, will it come off, or is it a damage I’ll have to accept? What else to be aware of with these? Are parts still available (saw it mentioned somewhere that crystals can be hard to find)? Any advice / information appreciated. Thank you.
Looks like a fine example, and your supposition is correct. In fact, collectors refer to that issue as "radium burn". It won't come off, but I wouldn't worry about it, as the overall condition of the watch is excellent. Congratulations!
Not really studied up on these, but wow, that looks incredible! Just pretend it's a permanent "GMT" hand at 9. I think that's actually quite a nice location for the radium burn to be if it's anywhere.
What a catch! Lovely reference and in mint condition. I would not bother about the spot at 9 at all. Enjoy it!
How cool is that a watch that permanently has a radium burn at the official time Australians start drinking 9am
Really cool. Attests to it being a drawer find. Think of it as a GMT function that is right only twice a day.
Amazing example of an iconic diver. And the radium burn is actually quite charming. Simply killer. Congrats!
