    Hi guys.

This pre moon speedy is up for offer locally ($8000 AUD ~ 6100 USD) and was wondering what your thoughts were before i go and view it tomorrow. I have been saving for a modern omega/rolex but think that if i can get a nice example of a vintage speedy i might go for it.

I have asked for some more info on the watch, along with the serial number but am waiting on a reply.

As a (very!) novice member here is what i was thinking from the photo's

    Pro's are:
The case seems in good condition (unsure if polished from photo's, but I thought I could see some of the brushing, which may be original)
The case back seems clear, with no significant tool marks.
The DON is in ok condition (the actual 'DON' is still clear) - how do you tell if these are authentic anyway?
    Comes on bracelet

    Cons are:
Bracelet only has 1 endlink (huh?)
The dial is not the prettiest I have seen for vintage omega (lume etc...)
Unsure if square ended chrono is correct for this reference, will need to wait for serial (the older ones may have had them?) **The chronohand is incorrect**
    Unknown mechanicals.

    Photos for you viewing pleasure

I would greatly appreciate your own thoughts (pro's/con's)

    Thanks,
    Edwin.

    PS.
From the seller, "This was from a family friend who's father owned it from new. It needs a service, was stored and not used for 30 years."

Also I know nothing about crowns or pushers and how to tell if they're good or not - i should probably get a MWO :p

You have characterzed it well. The square chrono hand ok for a later 145.012.
The price is pretty fair IMO. The only negative as you note is the lack of lume on the plots.
For me, this is a big negative as these lume markers are what make these so nice. But, others would not be so bothered by this, and a relume always an option.

This square chrono hand is not correct at all except if it was orange before and if the serial is in the good range :)

The square chrono hand is totally fine, @Fost was commenting on the Ultraman.

Looks honest and well loved. Movement looks pretty clean too, which is good.

$6100 is fair on this, as it will take some money to service and clean it up.

I would go for it...maybe take cash and see if they will deal. Good luck

Stand corrected, square bottom is ok, but the top of this one is wrong.

I was really thinking it could be a repainted ultraman hand but too short :(

@Fost my apologies! Didn't see that it was the WRONG hand...I am still blinded by Ed:)

The correct hand can be sourced.

    Hi

Shouldn't the chrono hand normally be a spear type, either with a flat or tear drop bottom on the 145.012?

The chrono hand looks does look like an Ultraman type shape on the OPs watch......is it faded orange, not sure. Ultramans are in the movement no. range 26.076.XXX and 26.079.XXX and in the 145.012 I think, so who knows maybe? I'm sure all will become clear over subsequent posts.

    All the best

    Nathan

I don't like the dial, and for me that is everything. But I have a nice 145-012 that I picked up before prices went crazy so perhaps I am spoiled/unrealistic for the current market.

Appears to be a nice A1 flat feet Omega crown that is hard to sort these days. Question is: can you live with the dial? The chrono hand and missing end link are not so hard to find. Over all this is an honest example and needs some TLC to have her shine through again. If you can negotiate the price further down, I think it can be a good buy. Good luck!

Is it me or are 145.012 prone to lume flaking? See that a lot (moreso than on 105.012 and 145.022's)

IMO, 105.012s are much fewer made into production compared to 145.012s so they might be seen less with the issue while 145.022s have smaller footprint of the lumes thus withholding themselves better.

I think that the dial will be the yes or no point for me, I'm going to see how it looks in the flesh and will decide from there.

What are people's thoughts on reluming/deluming? If it is done tastefully can it enhance the watch or does it turn people of due to disrupting the originality?
