Nickel-silver, aka "German silver"
It's a nickel-copper-zinc alloy with a luster resembling silver, but not containing actual silver.
Was popular for silvery-like flatware (forks, spoons) from roughly this era.
Some watch cases were made of it as well.
That case, as well as mine, have stayed bright and the engravings sharp and clear. Maybe they were just lightly used, or maybe this is a superior case material. 📖
Is there a horological leather roll and strap team a brewin’ with @Duracuir1?
The one I posted is allegedly white gold-filled.
Of course its also described as gold-plated.

I was a little late for this but firstly congrats to the winner and respect to you Dave for having such a giving community spirit!
I have yet to get myself a watch roll, I might take inspiration from you and try to make one myself! Where did you get your materials or patterns?
I am very impressed with your needlework - I don’t imagine mine will be anywhere near this good but it’s worth a go I suppose ☺️
Hey thanks Ollie! I appreciate it. I think that a watchroll is a pretty good project for someone new to the hobby. For material I used a leather jacket from a thrift shop. The leather has great patina, but the jacket was no longer functional as a wearable piece. So, it was perfect. Some saddle soap and some conditioner and it was good to go. Jacket thickness or even a bit thicker leather would suit just fine. I saw a YouTube video where someone made a project using a fork to set the stitching lines, so you don’t really need to invest in tools to give it a go - but the right tools certainly help! When you are ready for tools, I’d suggest to buy the best right from the start. The cheap ones can make you feel like your skills suck. I extrapolated the pattern based on my existing two-watch roll. Easy peasy. If you are really wanting to give it a go, I’d be happy to sketch out a pattern for you to follow.
