After hinting I'd like an omega for my 40th, my father in law gave me this as a joke (he found it in a Swedish junk shop)

Anyone know what it is? I'm no expert but guessing it's 1950s, searching the internet I can't find anything with the same number layout on the face, missing 3, 6, 9 and 12.

It seems to be in working order nad has kept time for 2 days, the face is badly discoloured and the glass scratched. Around the edge of the case is slightly discoloured but the mechanics look fine.

    Worth renovating?

I'm not very versed in manual wind Omegas from that era but that watch isn't the joke your F.I.L. thinks it is. ;)

Is this a watch case that could take those Watchco dials? If it is you could end up with something very cool out of it

He might only have to replace or polish the crystal, but that watch should take the 29 mm Watchco replacement dials.

Service movement and replace crystal. Keep dial (face) as is and do not polish case. After all that you have a nice, decent sized, manual wind omega worth in the vicinity of $400.

    Cheers guys

I've had a look at the watchco dials and can't see one exactly the same (are they genuine?). I'll probably follow the advice of a service, new crystal and use it. Services are quite expensive in Sweden but as I got the wtach for free I guess I can't complain too much (and I still might get that new Omega for birthday yet)

Yes the watchco dials are genuine. You need not be concerned that a dial is exactly the same as yours, unless that is your nature or preference. Omega often used many different style dials for any one case reference. What you need to be concerned about is that a replacement dial fits your movement and is the same diameter as the old dial.

That is a gorgeous dial, I'd leave it the way it is.

A quick update. The watch has lost a only couple of minutes daily sat on the sideboard at home, which suggested it is probably in good working order. However I put it in my pocket this morning to take to a local watch shop and on arrival at work I can see it has stopped at the exact time I picked it up. It now doesn't seem to work at all. Would a standard service fix this issue or is it a sign of something more sinister (and expensive)

It likely just is tired, definitely service it, but get it done by an independent that's good.

£180 service and a strap and it's as good as new. Anyone in Sweden that needs a watch service I can recomend Farfars Klocka in stockholm

Really happy to see this one resuscitated. What does the father in law think?

I love when a watch gets some TLC after possibly being sitting in dust for years...I'd wear that in good health any day!
